I would be embarrassed to tell you how long I've been going to share encounter. My goal is simple, excellent service and a most friendly staff. They listen to what it is I want and I can always get an appointment that is convenient to me. Excellent local business

If I was allowed to give zero stars I would. I've come here for years and will never return again after my recent experience. I went in wanting essentially the same thing as I previously had done numerous times before: haircut and highlights. Everyone there knew previously how much I loved my long hair; we even had made jokes about my mom always making a fuss about keeping my hair long.

I only insisted on cutting about 3 inches. When I started my highlights the girl seemed like she had no idea know what she was doing. After the entire process I went home and cried. It was nothing I wanted; my hair was cut at least 7 inches and the highlights looked terrible. Upon calling about the ordeal, it was handled completely unprofessionally by the owner. She called me a liar and that I "loved my hair when I saw it". I did not and do not love my hair. She then proceeded to hang up the phone.

I've gotten my hair cut here for years and have always been very happy. Everyone is also very nice. I would not, based on my experience, recommend getting your hair done for events here. I had my hair done both for my prom and for my wedding and I was not super happy with either.

Took my daughter to get her hair cut and it took them less then 5 minutes to cut her hair evenly. However, during my conversation with the owner she expressed " In AMERICA people do not shampoo their hair ever day." I was not sure who she was referring too, since I am an American. I would not recommended this place if you are Latino, since she has no manners or filter. Back to Lincoln Park I go!

I used to work here as a shampoo lady. The staff was very friendly and extremely helpful. We had a lot of regulars and they would come back every week to get a different style. Since I worked there I got to be the first to try a new product with a bikini wax. They also offer different kinds of skin and body care products. The salon is small but they get you in quickly and make sure you leave happy. We always provided drinks and hot towels to customers too.

Great place for haircuts. My son and I have gone twice since moving here a few months ago and the staff is super friendly and they do a great job on the haircuts.

This salon has only gotten better through the years! I have patchy hair loss and I get a professional cut every time such that no one knows! The staff is friendly and fun. Be sure to try the cucumber water!

I have been a client for over 15 years. Great people that care about their work and customers! Love the hair stylists including Ginger, Katelyn, Grace. Also love their spa and nail services. Consistently happy with the services for me and my teenage girls.

Had a very strange experience here. I can't complain about the updo I had done, but the front desk and owner were rude and disorganized. Will never be back.

I went for a wrap and chocolate no-chip & left super relaxed and satisfied. Aside from the, expected, up selling attempts it was a perfect experience with very nice staff & a great atmosphere. From the minute I walked in to the minute I left I felt pampered and catered to.

I've stopped going here since I've grown out my hair - I used to have shorter shoulder length hair. They kept giving me the same haircut even after I described what I wanted. So what haircut was I getting? I call it the political mom bob or the Nancy Pelosi. Seriously, google Nancy Pelosi and that is how they would cut my hair every time. I had a friend get a pixie cut here and it was pretty awesome. I just never got what I wanted/described/brought a picture of.

Loved my haircut. Mandy was great! I have been looking for a good salon for a while with reasonable prices. This is definitely a winner.

I discovered A Shear Encounter through Yelp, I'm so glad I came! They use Aquage products which smell wonderful and do a great job. The main reason I am so pleased with this salon was my stylist, Indra. Indra understood what I was looking for in a hair cut, taught me little tricks along the way, and was extremely sweet and easy to talk to. Needless to say, she has a new client!

I have gone through a variety of high end salons (I will not name here, but trust me) and NONE have provided the level of service that Ginger and her team of professionals provide. I have never been disappointed and am always treated like a VIP. I have observed that all customers are treated in a similar manner. I can't imagine going anywhere else. Oh, and did I mention that I always look FABULOUS when I leave the salon, and I am able to recreate they style when I get home? I almost don't want to tell anyone how great this salon is and keep it to myself! LOVE THIS SALON!

LOVE this Spa.they treat you incredibly well from the moment you walk in the door. Service is important to me and it's clear that is a priority here. LOVE the new hairdo and products! Been all over and this is definitely where I am staying! Well worth the $ to walk out feeling your best:

Easy to enjoy A Shear Encounter - been having my hairs cared for, for years - Operated by two sisters, Verna & Ginger, they've led a staff who, on any day, anyone of the staff can offer a trim and shape up. Getting older, and at age 57 they've kept my hair alive and growing - always thank them for introducing me to Nioxin years back - Any which way, the whole family has been able to get a shear encounter - even Harry - and he has the most hair, and visits them the least - and so it goes - Did I mention the spa side of the salon - get a massage - ahhh!

Again - the entire experience and level of professionalism that is available in a local neighborhood environment - say no more - just go give them a visit (and a try) - Don't forget to ask for a banana Tootsie Roll when you're cleaned up and on your way out the door.

I hadn't gone to A Shear Encounter in years, until last weekend. It used to be my regular place until they moved locations and I started getting lectured about what I was doing wrong with my hair (I was in high school and my friends and I would change hair colors almost weekly using at home dye, so my stylist did most likely have a point, but I didn't want to hear it).

Last weekend I went to a different salon for an updo before a friend's wedding and the result was AWFUL. It was a big hot mess that a friends said looked like I went to the gym, fell asleep on it, and then wore a hat all day. It was bad. After calling A Shear Encounter in tears they said come ASAP and they would fix my style. I came over within 15 minutes and Verna was ready to save the day.

She took my mess and turned it into a sleek bouffant ponytail that looked great. She did it quickly and it lasted all night even through hours of dancing. It looked amazing and was exactly what I wanted. A Shear Encounter has exceptional customer service that just cannot be beat. After this experience I would recommend it to anyone.

Really liked this place. Went there for the first time a few weeks ago and love what they did with my hair. At first I thought it was a little short, but after a few days I am a huge fan. They were meticulous with details and also served me wine.cannot lose. And they had a nice looking spa and good jewelry and product for sale. I will def be back.

I love love love their massage options. If you've never had one I highly recommend this place. Their main business is hair and they do a damn good job. Friendly and reliable staff.

Been going there since April, 2007, Ginger and her team are fantastic, I actually found the salon using this site. I am very happy with the work they do, they are very friendly, not too over priced and best of all my hair looks and feels better then it has in YEARS!

Visit Nicki when you have a chance for a quick cut and color. She does edgy hair- which I love! I like when I have an idea and she refines it so it suits me- I usually get hair with personality. Also, this salon gets an extra star for service- cucumber water that normally seems odd, is very refreshing while getting your hair done. Also, in the winter they give you a heated neck pad while your color is processing.
