Masusu Kinks is the best! Nicole is quick and professional. She always does an excellent job! The only braider in Hampton Roads that I would trust with my hair!

It was my first time here. Ms. Keke washed, retwisted my locs, and gave me two braids. It came out very neat and I loved it. She was also very polite and courteous. I would definitely be going back.

I made a appointment and gave my deposit for 12:00. I get to the location and no one is there. They need to take the old location off of google immediately. They canceled me and refunded me but now I am having difficulty getting a retwist. Not fair at all.

I was looking forward to patronizing with this salon at their Green Brier location, unfortunately that was derailed by lack of professionalism. I scheduled an appointment after 7pm on there website in which it stated if making appointments after hours book for after 10am. I proceeded and saw their only availability was with stylist Nicole at 8am, 8:30am & 9am.

So I booked for 8:30 after arriving I waited over an hour contacted their customer service line and spoke to 3 representatives who would try to contact the stylist. The stylist responded and said she apologized and could reschedule for the following day because she already started her day. No problem, she scheduled the appointment for 10am & that she would notify me if she finished her first client before then so I could possibly come earlier.

At 6:45 am the following day the stylist sends a text message asking if I could come to their Newport News location @ 9:30. I reside in the VA beach area, I had a scheduled sitter for my toddler slated to come at 9:30. I explained this to the stylist (who continued to text me before 7am) at approximately 7:15 am. She then responded that she is short staff (although I understand that is solely not my problem when you're running a business and schedule appointments for clients based on your availability). Additionally instead of trying to accommodate for the mishap on their part, she quickly stated I can return your deposit if you can't come to Newport News by 9:30 in which she had already canceled the appt when I asked how do I retrieve my refund today as I have to find a last minute same day appointment nearly impossible, due to me going on vacation tomorrow morning.

She rudely stated for me to contact my bank. Extremely disappointed and hope that no one else has to experience this at this salon. *****EDIT**** I'm not sure how to add pictures of a thread here but once I figure it out, I will kindly post the receipts in addition to the threatening message the stylist just sent me in regards to me making this review in which you stated you can "do rude really well." As I stated be blessed & I pray you are able to get the proper manning the appointments you agree to requires.

So I take my son this morning to get his hair done here. He hops in the car, his hair looked fine from the front. As I'm driving up to street I turn his head to look at the back and his head looked AWFUL!. I immediately texted the stylist about my issue, she asked for a pic, I sent her this one, she then calls and ask me if within the 7 min of me leaving the salon did my son unravel almost the entire back of head! Ummm no!

She says well I'm going to take a loss and refund you you're money and you'll have to find someone else to do it because I know I double clipped his head. Never have I EVER dealt with any place of business like this! No offer to fix what clearly wasn't right, just a refund. I try my best to support local business but this is by far the worst!

Oh and by the way she left and someone else took out the clips and finished his head but not before telling me I needed to pay. How if the stylist I booked with wasn't there can she possibly tell me what another stylist did and what the outcome was?!

I'll start with the good. I came early and the service started on time and my daughter likes how her hair turned out. Now for honesty: the appointment was for my daughter and nowhere does it say you have to pay before the service, which I was told to do. Secondly, I was told to wait OUTSIDE (it was raining on and off all day). The site does say extra guest have to wait outside however I was instructed to wait outside the establishment while my kid is inside alone.

I was assured everything was okay because there were cameras inside (woosah). The website should have been specific and stated parents also have to wait outside if their child is getting serviced OR that part could have been mentioned BEFORE my money was taken. I just tried leaving this exact review on Vagaro and it told me I can't leave a review for a business I never visited. Hmmm how convenient.

I'm new to the newport news area and found this place to care for my loc extensions. I've been here 3 times so far and no complaints. Prices are reasonable (I think, as I'm new to locs), and appointments are easy to book. Today Adaysia did my hair and she did an amazing job. As stated I'm new to locs and this is the only place I've tried so far but I'm happy with the service. Give the place a try and share what you think

I called to see about pricing and the lady on the phone was rude sounding and not at all inviting. And based off some of these comments and the responses I'm seeing the owner respond to some people that have complaints it doesn't seem like the most professional place. I'm seeing comments where the owner is literally going back and fourth with people like it's a post on instagram, instead of the professional response to dissatisfied customers that you would typically see with more established businesses. So yea dodged a bullet there.

Called to see if she can braid my natural hair and add beads to the end. I have long hair and weave makes my scalp ichy due to the chemicals added to the hair. Her response was "we really don't do stuff like that" LOL what a joke. The one time I want to get my hair done "professionally" and this was the response. Yea I'll stick to doing my own hair.

It was a nice and cool environment. The shampoo was a little quick but I wash my hair so didn't see that as a problem. My hair was done in about 10 minutes! That's the fastest it's ever been. Ms. Nicole was a little rough although I know that comes with speed. Little conversation and didn't make me feel welcomed but it's all love. I would suggest a little more customer service with clients. If we feel like family then we always come around like family. Shalom

Nicole was extremely professional and courteous. She displayed amazing customer service, especially since I booked a same day appointment within an hour. She arranged some things around to get me in the shop, and she slayed my hair for my anniversary. I will definitely be back for more services for myself and my children.

I had a great experience here - especially for my first time! I've been looking for somewhere to get my braids done down here for a while since I've moved to the area and I am so glad I found this place. Nicole was very professional - I was informed of my appointment time changes all within a timely manner! Sat right down and got right to it! I have never been in and out like that before I'm not usually a talker and Nicole didn't make me feel weird about that or anything, I really appreciated that. I am overall very pleased with her work and will be returning!

I was here for Loc Maintenance: Originally my appointment was yesterday, but no one even showed up to unlock the salon till 30 minutes past our appointment time. I forgot to mention that there was someone else there who had been waiting 30 minutes longer than us. That's why I'm here today; note to self, they don't honor early appointments. Happy with Service once you get in the chair, if they could only be punctual

I went in to get an estimated price of what it would cost to have locs done on my natural hair. I currently have box braids in and to a few out so she could see the length of my hair. The lady I spoke with was very rude and told me she would need to see all of my hair out to see how thick it was I advised her that this was the natural texture of my hair and the length.

She still refused to even give me an idea of what we would be working with. As a business owner I find her tone and attitude to be very condescending and rude as if she could careless about gaining a customer. Wist I could give this review a ZERO because that is what she truly deserves.

My appointment was for 1:30 and as usual I'm on time if not 15 minutes early. However I get there and was told to come back at 3:30. really an entire two hours! Shouldn't there have been a phone call or something to inform me of that versus me driving from the other side of the water. Needless to say I came back just to wait another 30 minutes. nope, lesson learned. my tome is just as valuable as theirs

I hate getting my hair done and hate waiting in the salon. I did not do either. The owner fit me in and in 15 minutes I was getting shampoo in my hair. My locs were twisted in record time. After the dryer, she gave me my first bun and sent me on my way. All this while she added hair extensions to another client. I was pleased with everything. I found my new hair dresser and will drive 30 minutes to see her because she is fast AND good.

My mom had Nicole (the owner) do her hair for her wedding in October, here is her review: "I have been a customer of Masusu Kinks for over 3 years. My wedding was on October 29th. Nicole came from Newport News to Williamsburg to do my hair and it was BEAUTIFUL. On my wedding day and ever since, I have received many compliments on how my hair looked and the style.

I got my hair done today at Masusu Kinks and I couldn't be more pleased! It took a total of 3 hours from beginning to end. During this time frame this awesome stylist also washed and retwisted 3 people's dreads and did twist on another person. I was amazed at the quality and speed of this young lady. I'm so glad that I didn't go by other people's reviews!

The shop was very nice and clean unlike the previous shop that I went to. The atmosphere was very pleasant and inviting. I appreciated her timeliness with her customers. This lady is GOOD at what she does! I will definitely return and tell others about her. My experience was GREAT!

My hair always looks good when I leave Masusu Kinks. I've been going there a lot this year getting no-knot cornrows and french braids, and I've received a lot of compliments each time. Go in with the style in mind that you want, and you will not be disappointed. Also, I can tell they recently updated the decor, very nice.

I went there three weeks ago for crochet braids. I felt this was the rudest customer service on the phone and in person I have ever experienced in my 44 years. Prior to getting your hair done, they get all of your information. I was surprised they did not ask for my social security number plus you have to pay before getting your hair done. Do not be surprised if they measure your head.

I was new to this hairstyle and asked a lot of questions, I felt the stylist was so not receptive and barely grunted any response. The braids lasted 2 weeks as the cornrows became so loose. I would not recommend this place to my enemy. I have since heard other negative reviews and I am surprise we continue to spend our money to be treated so poorly.

By far the worst braid shop that I've been to in the 757. Don't let the website fool you $150 is probably for braids done on a toddler. They will stop doing your hair in order to start someone else's. I don't have enough fingers or toes to count how many times they stopped braiding my hair to answer a personal call or to text. And the braids are only adequate. I rather get a person off craigslist before giving this place my business again.

Im in town visiting from Atlanta, and I decided to go to masusu kinks today because I needed something quick done to my hair so I called in and made an appointment. I got one at the Newport News location as soon as I called. I decided to get two French braids which cost $18 per braid and I also needed my hair washed which was an extra $15. I didn't think it was too expensive and the service was good.

My only issue was how I wanted my hair to look. Luckily I had a picture in my phone to show the stylist, which help the process tremendously. What I recommend this place to anyone else? Yes I would, because they were really fast and I don't think the prices were ridiculous, my grand total came to $51 but with the ten percent yelp check in discount I got it for $47.

I was looking for a hair salon that specialized in natural hair care. Someone recommended Masusu Kinks Salon. I went to get Senegalese Braids for the first time. The Stylist was very professional and took special care w my natural hair. My braids were not overly tight and unbearable like most salons. The maintenance products that they had were extremely beneficial in maintaining the style and moisture of my hair. I would definitely recommend this salon to anyone who is looking for that personal touch when they visit a hair salon.

I used to come here years ago to get my locs retwisted. My twists were only a few months old. I was a college student not from the area, so i needed a natural hair salon/stylist that was affordable and great quality. I remember a wash and retwist was $35 and the owner, Nicole did my hair.

It was ok.i might go back. I went there to get my locs re twisted and my experience was ok for me. i was there on time however no one got me in a chair for 40 mins. No problem I understand they had ppl. However I was getting just a retwist. I got there at 5 and did not leave until 8 my locks are not that long. I sat in the chair after getting my hair washed for 30 min while she washed another client.

Then when she started to twist my hair she stopped to go over to another stylist that was having an issue with her client. I did not think it would take so long. Any who the work on my locs were ok, the ambiance of the place is very nice and chic. The stylists were very nice.

I actually live in DC but grew up in the area. I needed a retwist this past weekend when I was visiting my mom. I looked on the website and found that I could get a retwist for $35. What?! $35?! That's amazing! I pay almost $80 for a simple wash and retwist in DC. They were also open at 6am on a Sunday so that sold me. Myself, my sister, and my aunt made appointments based on the services we saw online.

My aunt made an appointment over the phone for a henna hair coloring treatment. However, when she arrived, they told her that they no longer do that. -_- As for me, my experience was OK. The reason why it was not stellar was because of the woman who shampooed my hair. I don't know if she didn't know how or just did not feel like doing it, but the shampoo was HORRIBLE.

It just wasn't thorough and she couldn't rinse the soap out of my hair. The woman who actually twisted my hair was AMAZING! I can't say this enough. I have never had my hair retwisted that fast and she did a beautiful job. I also loved the products she used. Honestly, if the shampoo lady was trained better, I could give this place 5 stars.

The place was clean and I liked the ambiance. It was decorated beautifully and it had a cool mural on the wall. I may try again if I'm in the area and I need my locs done. Perhaps she was having an off day.
