It was a confusing experience with literally a lady who wags her finger in a general direction and you are just supposed to know where to go. i was there for a color, highlight and cut. i had called in advance on pricing and was told the extent of the color would determine the price. i had a gift certificate so i wasn't too concerned. i get there and wait for a bit. then i am brought back to another area and i wait some more. finally someone speaks to me in a hurried manner asking me to show my hair so they could see what they are dealing with. i am a nurse and i homeschool my children and the stylist proceeded to loudly exclaim how bad my hair was. i honestly just wanted to be kindly taken care of like i do for others every single day and immediately i feel embarrassed and humiliated in front of the other clients and staff. the stylist says if she had to pick my natural color she would say it was somewhere in the middle of my hair and i said i disagreed-my roots would be natural. unsettling. she literally slapped color on my head, forehead and ears (i am still washing it off). ran around answering her cellphone that kept ringing and another lady washed my hair. now she was AMAZING! and so kind. i get the highlights and tell the stylist how i want my cut. she proceeds to hand me the hair dryer to do it myself while she helps another client! this is truly a first for me. she returns and does my cut pointing out that it must have been a long time since my last cut because my ends are so thin. thanks again! we discussed a couple inches and she took way more and was super distracted. then comes time to pay. i pull out my gift certificates and she takes them from me before telling me the price. looks at them and says "okay $315-you still owe money." wow okay-usually i get the price first then give payment but ok. you canNOT add tip-that is cash or Venmo only-both of which i do not have. i do not carry cash anymore and um.everywhere lets you add tip on credit card so that's a not so bright choice. in all 3 stars - i did receive a service and i got to help too. thank goodness for the lady washing hair-best part of the 4 hour experience!

It is very good service and a excellent location. They accept walk-ins but I suggest you to make an appointment if possible

Tried this place on a whim because I wanted a cut and a pedicure. It was a place fairly close and offered both. The pedicure was relaxing and feet feel great now. And the shampoo - OMG, she snuck in a little neck massage! The shampoo has always been my favorite part of a haircut, but she took it next level! And the cut looks really nice. It has been a long time since I have gotten a cut (pandemic and all) but I think I found "my" go-to salon.

The only braiding shop I've been too where they don't overload my head with braids and they secure the base. I have dense but fine hair so it's perfect. No breakage, no heaviness.

Updating to 1 star- not only were they not transparent about service and pricing, the coloring I had done was GONE after 5 washes

Best cuts in Silver Spring. They did both my and my wife's hair for our wedding and did an amazing job. Fairly priced, nicely located, and friendly.

I have gone back and forth about sharing my experience. I liked the employees (I only really saw two- Tiffany (who did my hair) and one other woman who washed it. After a very brief description of what I wanted, Tiffany began to go to town and answered her ringing cellphone several times while continuing to cut. At one point she had her cell phone in one hand and kept cutting with the other.

It turned out way shorter than I had hoped and, unprompted, she even shaved some off the back at the bottom of my neck. Also I guess they don't automatically style there, so she blow-dried and sent me on my way. It was all very comedically tragic.

Been going here for about a year and a half and have been mostly satisfied with the service until recently. Late last year, my stylist cut my part way too high and I gave her a chance to fix it next time I needed a haircut. It came out well, afterwards. Went yesterday and I asked for the same thing I always get, which is a low fade. What I got was my sides shaved down evenly.

I could deal with this if it weren't for the fact that the back is messed up and one of the sides is uneven. Looks great from the front, but looks bad from the back. I walked out of there with nobody mentioning it.

Love what they do to bring out the beauty of transforming your hair the make you feel new, , young, , and refreshing. Made my day.

Excellent haircuts from Tiffany for years, happy they are making after the closure period. Great shampoo folks too.

Today was my first time at Kibana and unfortunately I wouldn't recommend the 30 minute body scrub-polish that I purchased I was so excited for a day of self care and pampering and the Kibana spa room didn't feel relaxing, it was cold during my service, my spa tech Angelica was very friendly and did her best to keep me warm with hot water but I was still not relaxed.

I was expecting a deeper scrub- the scrub felt like an at home scrub product you buy from target. I wish they told me to bring Shower shoes to walk on the wet floor and I would've liked a stool to sit on and put on my clothes/shoes after the service. I honestly feel like I could've saved my money and scrub my body in my shower at home. Again Angelica was kind and accommodating but I did not like my experience.

I called on August 24th to make an appointment for September 5. I arrived on September 5 and they had no record or me making an appointment. They would not accommodate me whatsoever. I can't speak for their work, but if it's anything like their customer service, it probably sucks.

Had a very lovely pedicure in a very clean place, nice people, etc. but without drying fans or even the nail drying spray I smudged my nails. Came back shortly and they fixed it but I had to stick around awhile waiting for my nails to dry only to smudge it again in the way home. Partly my fault for not great shoes but adding some drying fans or even just the spray would really help cut down on wait time and maybe even accidents. Pedicure was $40 without tip. For that amount I really wish I could have a clean paint. Oh well.

This review is from my best half. The place is on Ellsworth drive, so you can combine shopping with spa visit. The nail service is good, all instruments are sterilized. They accept walk-ins and have reasonable prices for a spa. Some people comment on smell but or the problem was fixed or it was an imagination, no smell at all. Whoever is looking for a shellac removal - they doing it pretty well. Finally you can send your send your worst part down the street to the Irish Pub

An awesome experience. I would recommend Kibana to everyone. My hair stylist is the bomb, I love the work she does to my hair. Every time I leave this salad I am smiling. The nail techs are also really great. I recommend that everyone give them a try you will love whatever you choose to do.

Amazing! Spa services personal touch and professional. Loved the body wrap. Hair cut and color made me feel glam and flirty. Cant wait to go back!

I was a regular customer in Kibana specially for my hair. I decided to try their facial and eyebrows. Unfortunately that went very wrong. My eyebrows were waxed with very hot wax and the skin below my eyebrows was burnt. I do not wish to tell the name. This happened 2 days before my engagement. I had black spot and I called to ask if they can help me to get rid of this.

The manager asked to visit the salon and when I did, she just looked at it and said it will go away in few days. And here I am after 3 months, I got married and I had so many parties in between. I applied lot of foundation to cover the burnt area. They never called back to ask if I was doing ok or helped me with anything. I have experience with places who make mistakes but they try to hard to rectify it. Kibana was unlike them.

I am very disappointed. I was a regular customer because I live close by but now I go to a different place. The place is super expensive in the area so you have definitely better places to go.

My usual stylist cancelled on me from not feeling well, so I had to find a stylist on short notice. Since Kibana is not far from me, I was a walk-in. I was pleasantly greeted by a lovely receptionist. Tiffany was sitting nearby and initially checked to see if another stylist was available. She was not, so Tiffany (owner), accommodated me and cut my hair. I'm glad she did because she did exactly what I asked for and it turned out better then I expected.

She did gently remind me to schedule it next time, but she was happy that I was happy with the results. Just for reference, I can only attest to my hair type, which is thick asian hair, and I feel Tiffany being asian herself understood how to manage and cut my hair. There are other experienced stylists there, but for me, I would go back to Tiffany since she knows how to cut my type of hair. FYI the cost was approximately $70, which is I think relative to other stylists I've been to, but costs vary depending on experience and customer requirements, so it could potentially be cheaper depending on who you get to cut your hair would be my guess.

I hate, hate, hate going to hair salons but I was desperate. I booked a last-minute Sunday (!) appointment with Tiffany. She was unbelievably fast and gave me an excellent cut. You can tell when the cut is a good one and this one is. I don't get color or anything else so I was in and out in 30 minutes and for me, that is a jackpot. It is slightly on the high end but I think it's worth it.

I walked in after leaving Scissors & Comb where the reception for my scheduled cut was indifferent, icy. Little to no eye contact, no smiles, really weird vibe, so I left. I was also the only African American in the salon at the moment. Definitely did not want to force my money on them. At KIBANI, I asked for someone experienced with natural hair. Donna was recommended, we talked, I had a picture of the desired cut and Donna did a great job.

She really listens and is able to effectively talk with you about how a cut needs to be executed to get the desired results, then she does it. Very professional and considerate personality too.

This is my favorite place to be! More precisely, my favorite place is in the shampoo bowl getting a temple and neck massage during my shampoo, followed by a cup of hot ginger tea! My stylist is Charlene and when she moved to Kibana, I followed her. It's a great environment and a little retreat for me.

Will not return to this salon for a facial. Cons: -Overpriced -Employees eating in the pedicure area (as big as this place is I would think they would have a break room to eat in) -the bed that I laid on was covered with towels and uncomfortable -Loud (as I was getting my deep cleanse facial and glycolic peel I could hear the staff talking loudly.

It would be great for the staff to put on soothing music to zone out what is happening outside the facial/massage room). -My esthetician was Angelica. She did not introduce herself and burnt my skin with her suggested glycolic peel. I have had glycolic peels before and expected some peeling but I did not expect my skin to become hyperpigmented in areas that it was not before.

I ALWAYS wear sunblock and actually reapply every 2 hours. I have also never been sunburned. So this hyperpigmentation was directly linked to the glycolic peel. Pro: -Location- in downtown silver spring I do not know how any of the other services or estheticians are but try at your own risk.

You want a makeover come here! What a fabulous place to get your hair done I got a Balayage hair colour with caramel highlights along with a level 4 base colour! My stylist was Demian: he is incredible! I showed him a pic of what I wanted and what justice was done! Its better than the pic I showed him! Thank you again for an amazing transformation

I went for a manicure 5 days ago and it's still going strong. My friend, 5yo daughter and I went for a manicure and child's pedicure. We were late and took forever to pick out colors. The technicians waited patiently and then were very pleasant when we finally sat down. I chose a dark blue color from Essie and the polish still looks presentable even after 5 days.

The prices are a little higher than what I'm used to but clearly they have a good product so it's worth it. Plus the customer service balances everything out. I will be going back. Very nice to see a nail salon that provides both good quality products and customer service. Thank you!

Warning: DO NOT GO HERE, TRUST ME. I suffered MASS hair breakage after a $600+ straightening treatment. Tiffany, the owner of the salon and person who performed the treatment, refused to refund my money. I've learned from another salon that Tiffany over processed my hair and placed the treatment too close to the scalp. It broke off near the root in large clumps all over my head and the nape of my neck. For over one year now, I've had to use Bobby pins and headbands while it grows back. This place should not be in business. Trust me.

Once again Ramon delivers the best cut and color i have ever had. He really understands a person, their personailty and what is best to fit them both physically and spiritually. I always feel my prettiest when he is done working his magic. Bravo Kibana for keeping such a talent on staff

Overall the Service is standard or slightly above but not worth the cost. I use this place as a last minute, last resort back up to my back up. I've been here a few times and have yet to have a low quality experience but am always charged over the market rate. However, pricing changes often and is not made clear. In six months I was changed 3 different amounts for same exact service.

This makes loyalty very hard to stomach when you do not feel valid or respected as a consumer. In salon Products are pushed every visit from stylist to front desk. Regardless of how many times I've declined, I've been asked to buy more and more. 1-2x is understandable and just the workers doing their job but more than that has reached a level of uncomfortable.

Wait time is never made clear nor is it consistent so that makes it hard to plan around. I've waited anywhere from 10-40 mins for my appointment to begin (including the wash bowl). Only pros in my mind are general cleanliness, variety of services rendered and central location for the area (downtown silver spring). Oh, and the shampoos. The women who usually do them (sisters I believe) are very thorough. But, do I recommended? No. Go elsewhere and save yourself money and headaches.

I had a crick that turned into extreme pain in my back neck and shoulders. I called ahead made an appointment Saturday 7/6/13. They Upsaled/suggested a Swedish massage for my situation. It didn't matter how much it was I just needed relief. $45 for 30 min. Angelique was my therapist she went in and I felt so much better. I was comfortable the room was clean.

The whole salon was beautiful. I definitely will be back that $45 was nothing compared to a lot of other places. I still have a little pain in my back I honestly didn't expect to be healed, I probably should've done the hour for $80 time wasn't on my side, but I'm planning to go back today for a follow up. Massage with Angelica only: Angelica is amazing. I have suffered from migraines for 8 years now. They are typically at their worst in the spring. I was having a particularly bad spring this year with 5-6 migraines per week (almost every day). I scheduled a massage with Angelica on a whim during a particularly bad week and the results were amazing.

I have been getting a massage from her once/week since and am now down to one headache per week on average which is best I have had in years. Angelica is very polite, her room is clean, and she is extremely considerate of her clients and dedicated to her job. She is constantly asking for updates on my migraines and researching new techniques to use in our massages. I will continue to see Angelica and 100% recommend her.

I love this place! I've been to Kibana a few times and I always leave the salon feeling like a movie star. The location is excellent, right downtown Silver Spring! The prices are a bit high, but totally worth every penny. Unfortunately, I can't come here as often as I wish I could, but do treat myself to a great hair treatment from time to time.

I can't complain a bit about the services. My hair always looks great. The staff members are above awesome. They treat you like royalty from the time you come in to the time you leave. I highly recommend Kibana, my only reservation when recommending to friends is the price.

I never write reviews but this is literally the worst hair salon I've ever been to. I went it for a straight womens hair cut (all one length). Anna maybe made six cuts all the way around my head and then started to blow dry. $65 for 15 minutes? Absurd. Additionally the hair cut was horrid. See pictures. All one length? What a joke. Save your money and go elsewhere. Wait, why can't I give this zero stars?

The service is always exceptional. Specifically, I have been going to see Angelica for the past couple of years and she delivers some of the best facials I have ever had. She takes the time to see what my skin needs, and tailors the service specifically for any problems I may be experiencing. My skin glows when I leave. In addition, I recently had her do my eyebrows for the first time, and they have not looked this sculpted in a long time. Her work is excellent.

Got my nails DID :-) & I even squeezed in a new hair cut.best experience ever. The staff was extremely nice & made sure that everyone there was being taken care of. When I thought someone forgot one thing, they showed me that in fact they did NOT forget at all & made it even better!.Can't share the secret but please believe that it was WORTH the wait. Maybe you can have a little magic happen too?.you gotta go to experience it though;-)
