Ok. I really debated about posting this because I do not give negative reviews as a rule and because I feel like I may have caused the problem by being too calm, mellow, and "whatever, do what you want" during the haircut itself. I went in for my first post-pandemic haircut. I had an undercut in 3/2020 and it had grown out for a year, so I was planning to go back to the messed shag bob with bangs I've had since 2015.
I wrote this in a message to Stacy, and showed her a picture of me with my standard old haircut. Stacy literally looked at a photo of me with the haircut I wanted and have had on and off for much of my adult life. and said "see, I don't think it would be possible to cut your hair into this sort of shag bob. It's too thick." She cut my hair into a. it's beyond a pixie cut, more of a short, choppy men's haircut.
I do not have bangs, because no part of my hair is long enough to be called bangs. There are bits in it as short as 3/4 inch interspersed with pieces 2 inches long. It literally looks like I had some sort of dysphoric mania and attacked myself with a pair of scissors. The worst thing (because my hair does grow pretty fast and within four months I'd have been able to pay someone else to do something to this) is that Stacy went completely overboard with razoring my hair, saying it was "too thick." She took off most of my hair, some of it nearly to the scalp, with a very dull razor, in a process that took about an hour.
I don't think hair has been "thinned" with a razor since the 90s, and my razored-off hair is now splitting, frizzy and dry despite my deep conditioning as soon as I got home. Because of this, I will have to wait for this hair to grow enough to have these ends cut off, or will have to shave my head, something I spent last night seriously considering.
I just don't understand how this could have happened. I said a short, messy bob with bangs was what I wanted. This is literally the easiest cut for a stylist and most forgiving for a person's face shape of all the women's haircuts that exist. Because of this, I said I was usually happy with whatever haircut I got and I was sure hers would be fine.
Once I realized what she was doing, it felt too late to stop her. I smiled, joked, paid, tipped and went home. My husband says I still look pretty. My son says "why did you let her do that to all your hair?" In horrified tones. I am attaching a few photos of various shag bob haircuts with short bangs that I have had over the years. In one of the photos I am 6. Obviously, I know that my hair can be worn in this particular style.
I am also attaching photos of what I have now. I didn't think to take a photo of what a walked in there with, but it was nearly shoulder length. Im also attaching a photo of what I left with. To say I'm shocked would be an understatement. I just kind of kept smiling and looking for hidden cameras while Stacy razored off all my hair.

Stacy B is great! Stacy runs the place herself, and is super friendly. She really took the time to understand what I wanted and then cut my hair exactly the way I wanted. I am always nervous to go to new hairdressers, because I don't get my hair cut very often (it's very long), and if it doesn't look good I'm stuck with the cut for a long time - but I would definitely recommend Stacy!

Why have I not reviewed Stacy until now? I searched for months for a decent place to get a haircut in New Haven, getting some pretty classic hatchet jobs along the way. Then I found Stacy, and the search was over. I recommended several friends to her, and they all became loyal customers as well. I think that tells you everything you need to know. Plus, Stacy is really fun, and she has an excellent bathroom!

Just got back from having my hair cut at Stacy b's. It's alright. I'm not thrilled with it, but it's not a terrible cut or anything. It'll do. What I don't like is how Stacy made me feel kind of like an idiot. I'm not a big hair person- I usually don't give much thought to it and just sort of let it grow until it gets annoying- but I do have some specific issues with my hair that I usually tell to hair dressers and they fix no problem. Stacy pretty much dismissed all of my concerns and told me there's nothing she can do about them (even though multiple hair dressers in the past have dealt with the issue much to my satisfaction).
She gave me a bunch of quick beautician mumbo-jumbo which I couldn't quite follow and then just told me how she was going to cut my hair. I also told her I how I had a special occasion coming up, and I wanted something a little more interesting and styled than my usual. She offered no ideas, and seemed annoyed that I was bothering her for advice. Instead, what she gave me is boring cut nearly identical to one I got last year for $15.
I will most likely not be going back. That all being said, it was easy to book the appointment (same day), the place is nice and in a good location, and I had her full attention while I was there. If you have a lot of knowledge about hair styling and have strong opinions on your hair, I'm sure Stacy will be adequate.

I get the perfect haircut here. The basics are in place: convenient location, good prices, high quality hair products, etc. The bonus is that Stacy is as charming as she is professional. And to top it all off, the atmosphere is pleasant and soothing and ultimately very relaxing. But the most important thing that I could say is this: Stacy is very talented and knows how to do hair!

I had to attend my friend's anniversary dinner. Had Stacy do my hair. She did a decent job. Not spectacular. One thing you must be prepared for is her somewhat.well. unique way of expressing herself. She's not the most engaging conversationalist. She sometimes says inappropriate things and chatters about the strangest things. I couldn't wait until I could leave. However, as I said, she did a decent job on the cut/style and the prices was more than reasonable.
