If you ask Paul how long he has been in businesses, he might smile and answer in terms of the number of haircuts he has done in 3 decades! Paul started his journey in 1984 with a small, 3-chair salon. Crystal Lake (and McHenry County) has changed and grown by leaps and bounds since the early 80's and Paul has enjoyed growing and building his business in a tremendously supportive community.
All clients are automatically enrolled in our reward program & points are tracked on our in-house computer software. I had went for a facial with Lauren and she was absolutely AMAZING! THE BEST I EVER HAD.She was thorough throughout the process from the cleansing to massage. I was so relaxed and feeling wonderful. She truly loves what she does and it shows. Her knowledge along with her care was appreciated. I went back again today to see Jennifer for a massage. She was PHENOMENAL also being the BEST I EVER HAD!
She had found some tightness and concentrated on a few areas that needed it. She has such wonderful technique and perfect pressure. I was feeling awesome afterwards. Jennifer is truly an expert at her job but most of all her compassion to help truly touched my heart. I thank you both and so happy to find 2 services in one spot.

I have been a very loyal client, until yesterday. I was both a hair & nail client who was in very regularly for the past 6 years. My regular stylist became impossible to book with due to her lack of hours and my schedule. I decided that I absolutely could not go any longer and asked the primary receptionist, Cat, who she recommended for me. I asked who else does a lot of blondes.
She recommended Carol. I showed Carol a picture of me that was taken the week my hair was done last. I explained that I do not like any warmth in my hair, I wanted "light & bright". Carol was extremely fast applying the lightener. It was also obvious she was taking large slices. Typically I spend a decent amount of time under the dryer so I can lift high enough, but carol only briefly put heat lamps on me.
Once I was shampooed, I could tell immediately that I was not light enough and totally gold. Weirdly my regular stylist was there, but working the desk. She dried my hair and seemingly directed Carol on what to do. They brought me back to the bowl and applied a toner. Again back to Carols chair where I was now a murky color on my ends and gold on my roots. Yay.
I then was crying because it was clear Carol had no clue what she was doing. She told me to "spend a few days in the sun" to fix her botch job. I am a caregiver for a medically complex infant I'd love to have time to just go sit in the sun. Again, my stylist comes over to help. They do a soap cap to pull the toner out of my ends, which completely burned my scalp.
To fix it I was offered 1. Stay and let Carol keep trying(HELL NO!) 2. Come on Saturday to my regular stylist - I was unfortunately unavailable due to my husband working 3. Come back in 2! weeks. Carol then gave me the worst hair cut, not sectioning just a chop chop. I couldn't wait to escape her. The following morning I called the salon and spoke with Paul.
I needed him as the owner to come up with a solution so I was 1. Not in excruciating pain 2. Not waiting 2 weeks looking terrible. He told me he'd get back to me later that morning. We'll at 3:30pm he did finally call back. To tell me basically it could have been my fault. Told me stories of him messing clients hair up himself. And how when he spoke with Carol my hair looked good.
I asked him what we were going to do to fix it and was told he didn't know. After 6 years of loyalty I feel like I was treated like complete garbage. I will never return or recommend Paul Hyland Salon to anyone, I would actually recommend & encourage people to not go.

I absolutely love this place! They are so professional offering coupons, great product and superb services but best of all extremely knowledgeable staff. The salon is not only immaculate but modern and upscale with the best equipment. No hidden costs. The are so customer service oriented I couldn't believe it compared to where I was going before. What a refreshing change for me!
And I was very relieved to make this major change by switching stylist when I was so well taken care of. Lorrin was the best. She listened and got my hair perfect, just the way I wanted. I will definitely be returning and recommending all my friends here. Thanks so much for offering such a great salon!

I started at Paul Hyland last November when I could no longer stand all the quarantine grey hairs that had sprouted. What made me choose Hyland is that I was very concerned about safety precautions that allowed for social distancing. Their website listed all the precautions they were taking-reduced client number and staff, no double booking, plastic dividers between stations and wash bowls, and more.
I felt safe and confident entering their salon. I continue using Hyland not only bc of their safety but also employees. Morgan has been my stylist and has been patient with me, explains every step we are taking to get my hair to where I want it, she's suggested awesome products for me, that fit my budget. Cara has also done the same great work for my teenage daughter. I reccomend them to everyone I know!

I've been here twice. To be honest I'm not great about setting up appointments for myself. First time I went I called snd got an appointment for that day which was great. The woman cut my hair ok, nothing outstanding but I have a basic cut. When I got home snd did my hair it was a little uneven but not enough to bother me. Fast forward a year or so, I needed a cut and called and got in.
I got the same woman. She's lovely by the way BUT, my hair was uneven again. This time more noticeable. I called and she had me come back in where she was pretty intent on telling me I was changing my part which would contribute to that. Um not true. She cut it and evened it out. When leaving I knew this was my last time. It's a very clean spot with lots of stylists. I think I lucked out here.

This place is wonderful. I have been for a makeup class which was fun and very informal. I have been for a facial with Linda that was fantastic. Most recently I have been for a massage with Jennifer who is helping me heal from some chronic back pain. Could not recommend this salon enough! Also they have great products and make great recommendations specific to your needs (not pushy like many other places)!

My hair is coarse and thick and generally awful to work with, and Lorrin works magic on me every time, I leave with a beautiful cut and my hair is soft and smooth. She makes sure everything is perfect and is always willing to tell me what will or won't work best for my particular hair type and style. Love this salon!

I have been a client of Paul Hyland salon for almost 7 years. Everyone there is so fantastic and I can't say enough amazing things about Lindsey! I always get compliments on my color and cut for my friends and family. My fiance has even started to go there as well for his haircuts so we're keeping it in the family.

Paul Hyland Salon and Day Spa has a wonderful, unpretentious atmosphere. If you are looking for frills that are irrelevant, like wearing a robe while waiting for your massage, you won't find it here, because you don't have to wait for your massage. They treat their customers with respect and I do not hesitate to recommend Paul Hyland Salon and Day Spa to all of my friends.

Paul has been cutting my hair since I was 8-years-old. Now, I'm 32. He's the only one I trust! He's the kind of stylist where I would book an appointment every time I came home when I lived out of state. If I got my hair done elsewhere out of necessity it was never as good. I have fine blonde hair, and it takes a special touch to cut and color right. I feel like he knows and understands my hair! I love going to the salon and always have a great experience.

Paul Hyland is more of a hair salon that does some spa services also. It is not a spa like Spa Martinique in Schaumburg with a beautiful huge waiting area, a sitting room and large treatment rooms with nice decor. They do have a small nail area and offer massages but the rooms are small and nothing special. So if you are looking for a luxurious spa experience this probably is not the place for it.
I was a tad disappointed about that. Now if you need a good cut and style or color then this is a nice place to go. Friendly mature and talented hair stylists. Prices are about what you'd expect for a salon it's no $10 haircut from Great Clips.

Upbeat quality and atmosphere. I appreciate a good cut and style with good service. They have a nice repeat customer program. Good location nearby the Pingree train station in Crystal Lake. Their updo's are nice but pricey. Their brochure says they start at $60.00 but mine costed $90.00, was not too happy about that. Will stick to the basics here.
