Have not been here in a while, but, I have never had a better haircut and color out of all of the high end salons that I have been to in Chicago. There isn't any more to say when you have finally found the best. I am planning a visit very soon.

J. Gordon is an intimate salon with a surprisingly chill vibe for being in upscale Lincoln Park. Casandra gave me a lovely haircut -- dear hubby raved about it when I got home -- and a conditioning treatment that left my hair shiny and pampered. Casandra was extremely attentive and thorough. I felt totally heard about what I wanted to do with my hair. She cut my hair wet, blow dried and styled it, then went back in and cut it again. I highly recommend this service!

I don't recommend this place at all. I had a long hair and I went there to cut it a bit and I showed pictures of how I wanted. I wanted keep it long but unfortunately I ended up in the wrong hands of David who did nothing but cut all my hair, he didn't do anything of what I asked for, my hair can't even touch my shoulders! He did not care at all! After that I sent and email to let them know what they did and how disappointed I was, and Karen Gordon offered me a refund, refund that I never got and now nobody answer my emails. This is a horrible experience and they are not professional at all. Don't go to that place. They are a joke

I came to J Gordon in a complete emergency. I had my hair dyed at Charles Ifergan on Oak Street, where they completely destroyed my hair. It was burnt, hydrolyzed, blotchy color, a mess. I originally came to J Gordon for a cut and blow dry, but instead they brought my hair back to life with treatments, hair oils & a lengthy hair cut. I am so grateful I stumbled on them & the Kerastase products the recommended worked magic on my hair. I totally recommend this salon.

I got my first haircut at J Gordon tonight using the Groupon and am in love! The wash and Kerastase treatment felt amazing, followed by an amazing cut from David. He truly listened to what I wanted and offered knowledgeable suggestions and it turned out perfect! I will be back!

I hate my haircut. My stylist did exactly the opposite of what I asked her to do. I went with a friend who's hair stylist did a great job. Nice staff though, clean salon.

I recently came in as a Groupon. My girl was great and I'd give more stars if the atmosphere matched the vibe of my stylist. The first thing I noticed was a bulky scooter in the changing area and boxes. Seemed crammed and unorganized. The sad potted plant in the cutting area and in the bathroom. The slow music which almost put me to sleep on a Friday evening.

I did appreciate the regulations and distance from other people. I heard so many great things about this salon and will be back. Just a bit disappointed on the aesthetic. Seems like an old building with an old feeling.

I had an EXCELLENT experience with Sylvia, a senior stylist at J Gordon, when I got my hair colored for the first time. Ar first I wanted a reddish brown balayage, but as my hair is jet black and has never been colored, Slyvia suggested that I do a coloring treatment first to get the reddish brown tints I wanted in my hair, just so that I didn't get a color that was much brighter than what I actually wanted.

She spent a at least 1.5-2 hours painstakingly testing out and applying color to my thick Indian hair and additional time giving me a lovely face framing hair cut. However, when the color she applied showed up more muted in my hair than I would have liked, she offered to redo it as a balayage for no extra charge. I came in again and she spent another 3 hours bleaching and tinting my hair.

When she was done, my hair looked ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Usually, I never wear my thick Indian hair as curls as I feel it looks unruly. But after the balayage Sylvia gave me I will def be wearing it in curly style as the curls really show the awesome reddish brown tints! If you are someone who has ethnic hair or has never done a hair coloring treatment before I would definitely recommend Sylvia and J Gordon Designs. You really walk out of there with exactly the look you wanted.these guys really know what they're doing. I'll definitely be going back :

I got a Kerastase treatment and a beautiful a line bob haircut with Jimmy. Very COVID safe, everyone is super nice and the place is stylish, with a vintage decor. I am definitely coming back.

I have been coming to J. Gordon for about 14 years. Even though I moved out of the city 7 years ago, about an hour away, I still make the drive every 8 weeks because of the quality of service I receive. The entire staff, especially Janette, is so friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful in making sure your hair looks its absolute best. I look forward to my Saturday morning appointments and will continue to make the trek to Lincoln Park because of how wonderful this hair salon is. :

This is the best haircut I have EVER had. My stylist was Zema and I could not say enough good things. She is professional, talented, listened to exactly what I wanted, and took her time to make sure I looked my absolute best. I am also going on day 3 of my blow out and it still looks perfect. I will be going to J Gordon Designs for life now!

I love J Gordon! I see Zema and absolutely love her. It's reasonably priced, the head massages they give when they wash your hair are a big part of why I go! They always do a great job with my hair, it's clean, and you can venmo your hair stylist which I love because getting cash for tip is a pain. Love J Gordon!

This is the best haircut I've ever had! I'm so happy I chose this salon. They really care about your safety : they measure your temperature at the entrance and offer face mask and hand sanitizer. Master Zema is very nice and professional, I plan to come back to her every time I need a new haircut!

The salon itself is very nice and clean, the stylists are friendly but unfortunately I was not very happy with my experience. After telling the stylist what I wanted to do, he did something entirely different, which for the first time in my life made me tell a stylist that I do not like the haircut. So after a while I had to tell him exactly where to cut to be able to at least live with my new hair cut.

They also forgot to give my hair a treatment but made up for it I had read all the good reviews and was excited to try it out but after this experience I won't be coming back.

I was a client here for 15+ years and always had great service. You don't realize how great your service is until having to move to a new salon (moved from Chicago recently). The skills of each stylist with color and cut are superior. I was last seeing Sylvia. Nora provides the best hair washes! I highly recommend this salon.

I've been coming here for 15 years and have always had an amazing experience. The services offered are broad and the skills of the stylists superb. My stylist recently retired and I've started seeing Sylvia. She is excellent! My hair always looks amazing. I recently tried another salon near my home for an urgent need on a Sunday. Never again. J Gordon is the best!

I have mixed feelings about this salon since some hair stylists are good people like Lauren and Sylvia. Chloe, I told her that the hair was falling into my top on the back when she was cutting my hair and she said oh, sorry but she didn't even try to fix the apron around my neck and the hair kept falling into my clothes. I think she said sorry only because the shop owner was there, right next to us.

When I came home and changed my clothes all the hair pieces was stuck in there and I had to throw away my clothes. Another hair stylist counted the tip one by one in front me to check how much it was. Okay let's say she must have been very curious about it but still a bit weird. I'm still going to this salon but I avoid Chloe. She would deny about her poor service and but that was what happened and I really felt bad.

I've been going to J. Gordon for about 40 years, since they were located farther north on Clark, and I've loved this salon all that time. Karen is the best colorist in the entire universe, I'm convinced. Jerry always cut my hair (I wouldn't let anyone else anywhere touch it), but now that he's gone, (and do we all miss him!), I still get great cuts.

I recommend J. Gordon Designs highly. Everyone, from Tara at Reception to the wonderful ladies who wash your hair (and massage your neck!), is delightful, kind, and efficient.

I bought the Groupon for a haircut and a deep conditioning ($48) and I had such a good experience that I immediately ended up buying my next haircut at the special "Groupon repeat" price that they offered. ($59 instead of the $75). The salon is located on Clark street and is easily accessible by bus. I booked a same day appointment and they were able to fit me at 5:15 PM.

The staff is very welcoming and has none of the snooty, "cool girl" airs that are typical to hair salons in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. I was assigned to Sylvia, a senior stylist, and she suggested a Kerastase deep conditioning mask for my dry, frizzy hair. The salon was busy, so I had to wait for about ten minutes to get shampooed, but they have plenty of magazines, and complimentary tea, coffee, and cookies, so it was a pleasant wait. I'm not sure if I'd get the deep conditioning treatment again (for $$$ reasons) though it did leave my hair feeling really soft and good smelling. Sylvia was EXCELLENT - she took time to understand my hair care routine, how much time I have to dedicate to my hair, and cut my hair accordingly.

She was also refreshingly honest about what would NOT suit me, and most importantly, did not try to up sell me on any of their products. She was very helpful with styling tips for frizzy hair and i felt very taken care of during the experience. I really like that she explained all the steps of the haircut to me, and cut my hair both wet and dry. Like I said at the beginning, I'll definitely be back!

I gave J Gordon a try for the first time last week through a groupon and I will definitely be back. The interior is warm and everyone is very welcoming. The Kerastase treatment was relaxing and a lot of their products focus on repairing damaged hair and nourishing which is what my hair needed since it had been months since I had gotten a trim and my ends were very damaged.

My stylist was Brittany and she was absolutely wonderful. I have curly African American hair that's very fine but also gets very dry. Some salons can be unnecessarily aggressive when handling my hair, but she was super gentle and gave me a great blunt trim and brought some health back to my hair. She also gave some great recommendations for care in between salon visits.

My only hesitation would be that it's a little more than I would normally pay at a salon (not terrible though), but I do think that when you come, you will walk away with a great experience. Thank you Brittany!

I had Jimmy as my stylist and I must say he will be the only one to ever cut my hair again! I showed him a picture of what I wanted and that is EXACTLY what I got! I had the worse case of split ends and breakage I have ever had and he gave me a treatment (actually Chloe did, thank you Chloe!) and then cut it and blow dried it. Simple right? Well it was like a whole new head of hair! Jimmy is magic! Haha I'm in love with my hair again! Thanks Jimmy! See you again in a few months for a re-do.;)
