The Georgetown location of Toka Salon has a friendly, comfortable and professional atmosphere. The stylists are true artists who expertly apply their skills to achieve a customized look for each client. Sara Lord performed an amazing transformation on my hair using a personalized concoction of base color, highlights and lowlights. She used a compilation of chemistry, cosmetology and Sara magic.
Those are enough reasons for me to continue to go to Toka Salon. However, there is one more reason. The shampoo professional, Rose, gives the best shampoo experience I have ever had. It was an overall five star experience.

Even there is an expression "what God couldn't do it, hairdresser can't also." this people working at TOKA can manage your hairstyle on the way that you like yourself MORE than before their work. GREAT SALON, great hairstylists. GAZI is my hairstylist for last 15 years, great person, great ARTIST and I am very pleased and blessed to have him do my hair. NURI, the owner and my good friend is very successful businessman and his Salon is a top notch at greater DC area. Keep good work my friends. God bless you .

I had a gift certificate for a haircut & blowout, and had some old highlights I was on the fence about covering/re-doing. Nuri, the hairstylist, was kind of rude about my hair and called it extremely greasy, showed the hairbrush he used to several other people, and said he could see my bad highlights from a mile away. I thought that was unprofessional and hurt my feelings.
I know my hair isn't great- that's why I'm at your salon! I decided to only cover them up ($125 for single process) and he dyed my hair jet-black, which looks weird. I have very dark brown hair but the color he chose looks odd on me. He was also not gentle at all and the entire time he was dying my hair he was pulling my hair really hard, even though I repeatedly said "ow." He also kept saying how annoyingly thick and tangly my hair was.
The wash was good. The man who did my cut was very abrupt and also not gentle at all. Considering the value of the 'cut and blowout' was $150, definitely not worth it. He very quickly chopped off 4 inches without checking with me and then blow dried it. Literally just a trim and a very rough dry- no stylish, just blew it dry. Also, the receptionist kept taking her mask off. Overall, it was a fine experience and at least I got my split ends taken care of. Also, they only accept tips in cash- they do have an ATM on site. The salon itself is very attractive.

READ UNTILL END! to say that I'm upset is to say nothing. I asked to keep the length and dye my hair without orange pigment. And I repeated couple times! Guess what I have now? He cut all my hair! All! Like crazy! and now I need spending a lot of money and TIME for grow my hair back! I can't look in the mirror. That happened a month ago but I'm still upset and angry!
And about the COLOR! Every time when I rinse my hair - water was stained! And my white towels too! And my hair began to FALL OUT! I didn't say nothing in the salon but he saw my face. I tried very hard not to complain. I just left and cried! And still! So, you can see HOW HE KEPT the length of my hair!

I found him again! Yay. My favorite hair stylist ever in D.C. - Mustafa Corumlu - recently joined the team at TOKA Salon. He would be too modest to say anything, but Mustafa does the hair for many celebrities in The District (television anchors, et al.). He is the sort of professional who is so confident that he doesn't "faff about, " as the Brits would say.
His cuts are superb - worth every penny. Also, the salon in Georgetown is beautiful. It's bright and airy. Everyone is friendly and in good spirits. The woman who shampooed my hair was a good massager as well. Can't wait to go back!

Nuri and John, this review is past due! You and your team of artists are amazing. John is an amazing artist, he started his passion over twenty years ago in Istanbul transforming hair keeping up with the latest trends in the fashion and beauty industry. Sara Lord Beauty consultant is a master in highlights, haircuts, and wigs. ( she can found on Instagram Saralordbeautyconsultant).
Every time I walk into Toka salon, the staff are so welcoming and professional! I have been going to Madi for over 10 years now, and she has transformed my locks from my natural brown to platinum then black, and ultimately back to barbie! She's amazing and I always have a great experience when I come here! I get many compliments even from strangers.
There are so many great stylist and artists at Toka salon. I have had other services done including manicure, hair treatment, blowdry, and make up done a handful of times, with each experience being pampered to the fullest! Keep up the great work everyone, you are all amazing!

Nuri is the absolute best there is. He is not only a true artist when it comes to color blending and precision but he is a fantastic, warm, caring individual that's been my friend and a friend to my family for the past 17+ years. Since I live across the country now I recently had a nightmare color situation a week before my wedding with a different salon.
They made my hair 5 different odd colors from silver to grey to yellow etc. The first person I thought of to fix it - both color & cut without harming my hair - was Nuri. Knowing it was for my big day he made sure to make time for me. I now feel confident rolling into my wedding week looking like a natural blonde - no stripes, no off colors. Love you Nuri, Gazi, Ipek, Rose, Sezgi, and the whole team/ family!

This review is for Ury, whom I have been going to see for many years. He is a treasure among hairdressers, who really listens to what you want and who will take into account your hair texture and face and give you an honest evaluation about what will work best for you. He is creative and will make suggestions but there is no pressure and no ego, so the whole experience is very relaxing.
I have fine Scandinavian type hair, which can have a tendency to look a bit flat. However, with the techniques Ury uses, my hair winds up looking full and healthy and with a great style. Even though the salon is rather expensive, I always joke with Ury that it is the cheapest face lift in town, because I always go away looking 10 years younger!

There is one person here who is worth traveling to the ends of the earth for: Karina. She specializes in male and female Brazilian waxes and also customized facials, but beyond that, she is truly exceptional. I have followed her from salon to salon for almost 10 years, and would travel to any room where she is providing services. The waxing is quick, nearly painless and filled with great conversation always. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Karina. So glad to see she's at Toka now - I'll be coming back often!

Just visited Toka for the first time yesterday - followed my favorite esthetician Karina from Aveda - and wow! What a pretty, bright place - such a welcome change. I would follow Karina anywhere and am so glad she chose Toka. I have been seeing Karina for years and would highly recommend her for a variety of skincare services! And she works with the Glo Therapuetics line of facial products which are totally free of dyes, fragrances, gluten, nuts, and soy. Go see her stat!

Ladies with "natural hair", stay far away from Toka Salon in Georgetown! I had an appointment on 7/7/16 with Sarah Lord and I have to say that I am still traumatized. This salon and this stylist came highly recommended by a friend whose hair texture is similar to mine. I arrived at the salon at the appointed time and met with the stylist. Her first question to me was, "are you natural"?
Believe me, her face said everything about what she thought of my hair. When I said, "yes, I am natural", she responded with "I told (referring client) that she was the only natural hair I would do!" I responded with, "aren't all of your clients "natural"? (ponder on that for a moment). I don't think she ever got it. She then tried her best to talk me out of having my hair treated that day.
She talked about how much hair I had, how thick it was, how many bottles of dye she would have to use (I was looking for first time highlights) and how much it would cost me. Everything in me told me to get up and walk out, but I was leaving out of town the next day and really wanted color in my hair. She then told me that my hair was too dark and that she would have to lift it before she could do highlights and her team didn't allow enough time in her schedule to do both. :( After I took out my bun, my hair was still damp ("why is it wet?" - said with disgust).
I informed her that I wash my hair every day and that putting it into a bun won't allow it to dry completely. She then started brushing out my hair and I guess it was more appealing to her senses then she first ascertained. Her entire demeanor changed. She put in the color and then turned me over to the shampoo/conditioner person and never checked on me again. I will NEVER be back. I paid the most I have ever paid to get my hair done and I am still in awe of such treatment.

I came here to have my eyebrows done with Yuna, she's very gentle and talented. She consulted the suitable eyebrow shapes with me only specified for my face frame. Yuna took her time very carefully to wax and tweezing most of the line the first time to make sure she slowed the process down so that I felt comfortable. I loved the final look of my eyebrows. I'm so confident in her abilities and will definitely come back again. Everyone should give her a try.

I've been going to Toka salon for almost 10 years now. I always go to see Gazi for my haircut, and recently some ombre. He's always done such an amazing job with my hair. I like my haircuts to really do something for me but also stay easy to manage. He somehow manages to do both. He is a very nice guy and even if you're sometimes unsure where's he going, you'll love the haircut. He also does an amazing blow dry!

I just don't understand the non-stellar ratings. As a public affairs professional in my mid 40's, I neeed to look a certain part but want to keep a hip, youthful look. Nuri & Sezgi are as good as it gets. Short hair is hard to keep feminine; I'm a girl! Nuri has the talent to keep me looking feminine, in style and young. The entire expeiene is good - with many post appointment compliments. I can't imagine going anywhere else. What's better than and evening of good hair, wine and being treated like a princess? Enjoy every minute of the experience!

There is a huge difference between an ordinary haircut and great haircut -- it's the same noticeable difference between an off-the-rack suit and a custom tailored suit. Without a doubt, when I'm in Washington, DC, I'm sure to stop into Toka Salon in Georgetown for a great haircut. I've been a customer of Toka for years. The haircuts I receive are consistently outstanding, the staff are warm and friendly, and I'm always handled expediently, which is important to me because I'm usually on a tight schedule. Nuri is my usual go-to person, but when he isn't there I've never been anything less than fully pleased by his team. I've referred several male and female friends to Toka over the years. Their experiences have always mirrored mine.

I made an appointment with one of their experienced colorists Michael yet he wanted his 20 year old assistant to highlight my hair because he was running late. I had to repeatedly tell him I did not want his asst coloring my hair. In the end he did my color but it was not the color I asked for. I will not be returning. They charge you extra for a blowdry which I find ludicrous, why would I walk out the salon with wet hair? That's just a scam to make you spend more money.
Every salon I go to a blowdry is included with the cost of a haircut or color. They won't put tips on the credit card yet don't tell you this when you make the appointment.

I came here initially with a coupon and a good review in the Washingtonian, but after a few visits have decided it's really not worth the money. Not to say that I have gotten a bad cut here, but I've just not been impressed commensurate with the price. The stylist I saw (who's not the most expensive one) is $100 a cut, plus tip but my cuts have been boring. Looking around the salon, it seems mainly Capitol Hill, lobbyist or tv journalist types, hardly edgy. I would say this place caters mostly to middle-aged yuppie or professional types.

Kate is an amazing colorist and hair stylist.truly an artist. I have been seeing her since she worked at Watergate Salon (which she was too good for) now almost three years. After frightening experiences at other salons in DC, I won't go to anyone else. She always gives me a natural look and now I hardly have to say anything for her to know just what I want.
She is also a lot of fun to talk to and I can feel very relaxed. Nadia who I also know from Watergate is great for waxing. The salon's staff is very friendly too and attentive. My only request is that they serve cappuccino, something other salons provide. I guess I'm a little spoiled!

This is regarding the facial and treatments that Linda does at Toka. Linda used to work at Tara salon in Georgetown before as well and I can say, she is by far the cleanest, best and most through facialist I have gone to in the area. She is so great that even if you want to do something extra and she doesn't think you need it she will say so (which others would never do since they want to get the extra buck). I can not recommend her enough. UPDATE: Linda is in their Georgetown salon not this one.
