My name is Scott Jantzen, the founder and President of 'A1 Tanning Supply'. It all started in 1983 in Redmond, WA where I was employed as a lead service technician at a company called 'SCA Corporation' which was the first major importer of Wolff tanning beds in the United States. There I learned the service and repair aspects of the tanning business and with the wealth of knowledge gained from years of experience, it was time to venture out on my own to start 'A1 Tanning Supply'.Serving the local market for 30 plus years allowed me to understand the industry as a whole, and more importantly the customer.
Compatibility is an important tool used to match up tanning bulb types so that you may legally purchase and use a compatible lamp in place of the original. The reasons for this are many, but most importantly it is designed to protect the user in that by using the O.E.M. lamp or a compatible lamp, it has been pre-determined that the tanning schedule (in minutes) will not be violated, the wattage, UVA and UVB amounts will be comparable, and that overall the unit will tan in a significant way as the original equipment was intended.
Complaints about lamp performance (new or existing lamps) don't happen often, but when they do, the problem is almost never the lamps themselves. This article was created to help salon owners understand what they can do to increase the performance of their tanning beds and extend the useable life of their lamps.
What is the UV rating? This is the most confusing term when buying lamps, partially because it is the most used (and abused) term. This is the 5% or 6.5% rating you see on lamps. First of all, a higher number does not mean a "better" lamp. The UV rating is a RATIO based number of the UVB versus UVA.
