Services
Salon Familia was founded by Olinda Soria in 1999. She wasn't a hairdresser and didn't like going to salons very much. She longed for a salon with terrific and talented stylists in a warm environment that also welcomed families. Over the years, Salon Familia has built a family of loyal clients in the surrounding Chevy Chase neighborhood and beyond.

We took our son here for his first haircut. It was great! They were great with small kids and super talented.

This is a friendly well appointed salon with both hair and nail professionals. Kim and Hang are the best. I have been going there regularly for years.

I hadn't had my hair cut in awhile because of COVID so I went in with overgrown hair with dry, split ends. After a relaxing shampoo and conditioner from Maria I sat in the chair for a haircut and blow dry with Nini. I asked Nini not to cut my bangs because I am growing then out and she didn't cut them. Nini also checked with me before the first cut to make sure I wanted "this much" off.

I appreciated that a lot. I came out with healthy hair and a great style. I love it. The atmosphere in Salon Familia is very sunny and clean, and everyone I had contact with was very friendly and warm. I will go there again.

Got my baby his 1st haircut here. Great service and super friendly. They do offer outdoor cuts, which is great for babies since they can't wear masks. I highly recommend Anh!

Great socially distanced haircuts today at Salon Familia! Temperature checks, everyone in masks. They took all 3 of us at the same time and we were the only clients in the salon. If you live close, try Salon Familia and support our local Connecticut Avenue businesses!

Kind, clean, with repeat and multi-gen clients. Is my only pedi spot. And for post-COVID? They are very careful, salon practically empty and spotless. Its okay to come back!

I have been going here for many years and have always had wonderful service at good prices. Kim and Nini, the new owners and long-time stylists at Salon Familia have only made it better.

We've been bring our 2.5-year-old here since he was one. He's had 4 or 5 haircuts and they've all been great. Now that he is older, he sits by himself in the chair and they explain every step to him making him enjoy the haircut. He also knows he'll get a sucker at the end. We don't even live in this part of town but make a special trip when it's haircut time!

My husband also recently had a haircut there and had a very good experience. He is doing radiation treatments and losing his hair, and they were very gentle and patiently worked with him until they found a cut that worked.

Do not come here for a child's haircut. Despite what the name would imply, this is not a family friendly establishment. We took our 2 year old for her first haircut. The staff was extremely unkind that she was nervous to get her hair washed and then told us if she took any longer (only a few minutes had passed) they didn't have time for us.

We live in the neighborhood and would love to support local businesses but not those who don't have time for small children. Again, do not come here for anything related to children.

Love them! Great for adults and kids. My entire family goes there. I especially love Darlene, who is there on Saturdays. She's been doing my hair and the hair of my 3 daughters for several years now. Nini cuts the hair of my husband and son. She does an awesome job! I'm sure everyone there is great, but those are the people we use : It's nice to support local small businesses. The owners work there full time and are really welcoming and friendly.

Have been coming here since our kids were little, and now a couple of the staff have taken over from the previous owners. Kim is our mainstay here: she is great with the wee ones - when my son was a tiny, squirmy boy she would give him the cleanest, sharpest cut in record time! She also understands curly hair since she has curls herself. Recommended her to a (curly) friend and now her family comes here too. New space is neatly laid out and freshly painted. Just some low-key updates (better floor plan, bathroom relocated, new furniture and new dryers), same warm service.

Under new management so would disregard the previous reviews. Came to get my hair done- not only did I leave looking great the ladies were so sweet! Listened to exactly what I wanted and got so many compliments that night : I'll definitely be back.

I am so surprised by the number of negative reviews! The shop has been in business for a long time so I am assuming they must have had a poor stylist or two at one point, but I have never had a bad haircut, highlights or color. Kim, who bought it when Olinda retired, does great haircuts, highlights and color. I was also happy with the color and cut I got from her colleague.

Very much a family place. My husband has been getting his hair cut there for years. He's been very happy with his haircuts. Our daughters got their hair cut at FS from age 3 and 5 until they left for college. They still go back when they're home. Bonus: Little girls (and boys if they want) get to pick a hair ribbon to wear home.

This is a great salon! The stylists and the shampoo services are awesome. The pedicures are the best I have ever had! Have been coming here for a long time and will continue to as long as I am living in DC!

The manicure was a rip off. The technician double booked herself and gave rushed service running back and forth to another customer in the back room. No hand soak, 2 minute massage, high price, made up some story about cash only, sleazy operation.

My husband took my two sons (4 and 6) here for a haircut and was too nice to say anything, but they got their worst haircut in their lives. (My boys have been still during haircuts for years, so there's really no excuse.) Uneven, choppy, complete with mullet and actual tufts of hair left on their necks. I could not believe both boys' sideburns were uneven (one cut, the other left long).

This was not a professional work: it was amateurish at best and definitely not something we should have paid for. We had to take the boys to get a new haircut right away, and the new stylist could not believe what she was seeing. She actually said, "Don't tell people I've cut their hair, because I think I can only clean it up a little, it's so bad." I wrote the establishment to protest and ask for a refund, but they didn't reply--which really confirms their total lack for professionalism. AVOID. AVOID. AVOID.

The place is dirty, the stuff not nice. I took my son for a hair cut and they didn't have a proper sit fit kids. They also were behind our time appointment. I will never come back to this place

I recently got my hair cut and colored by Nini! I loved the atmosphere of the salon and she did a great job! She really listened to what I wanted and made sure I was satisfied by the end. Kim also did a great job on my hair, she helped out Nini here and there (my hair is very long and thick). Would recommend to my friends and family!

I never write negative reviews but this was just too awful to disregard. The haircut I received was so bad it compares to the time I did one myself when I was 4. Clippers straight up the side of my head, no blending, no fading, didn't square it up, just a solid buzz cut stopping just below the crown. This was followed by sloppy scissor cuts on top leaving my bangs different lengths and now impossible to comb neatly. A sub-five minute haircut with no mirror to view the back should be a strong indicator that professionalism is not held in high regard here.

My wife doesn't have a yelp account but she wants you to know that she has been going out of her way to see Kim for years and she's great. My wife has curly hair which is hard to cut and Kim knows what she is doing. I'm a bald dude so fergettaboutit. I ain't going. Ha! But if you are a lovely woman with gorgeous locks go see Kim!

Where shall I begin.? My pretty wife has been going to Salon Familia for a while but is determined to find a better salon (wont be difficult). "Nini" consistently cuts too much hair off and tries to give my wife a senior citizen haircut. Maybe that is all she knows but she needs to listen to what her clients want. The owner is absolutely consumed with squeezing every red cent out of his customers that he can.

I understand he is running a business but he takes it to the point of being offensive. They use inferior coloring products that require too-frequent trips back to the salon. Another disturbing thing is the number of men who frequent this place, which is clearly geared toward elderly women. Why arent these men in barber shops where they belong? A sign of the times I suppose. A word of advice to all potential clients: STAY AWAY
