I went to Phagans a few months ago-- my first appointment being in September! I wanted an icy blonde / silver, and I was told that it may not be achievable, but that they would try their best. I went in with pink hair and dark brown roots. It took 3 sessions, a week in-between to give my hair a break from the bleaching, and we got it! I had Amy, who was close to finishing her schooling here and just needed her hours done!

My hair was not the happiest, but it was intact! They provided advice on how to care for my battered hair, and sent me on my way! I was very pleased with the result and will be returning for a hair trim and a touch up! Ladies were very friendly and chatty! If a student was unsure about something, they didn't hesitate to ask a teacher! Not to mention, a teacher would continuously checkup on the work being done and ask how I was doing :

Former student here, when I first enrolled I liked it because the educators were nice and all. I came across a post from a former student before me on Instagram saying she absolutely does not recommend anyone enrolling here and I was confused as to why but after the first month I started to see why. To keep things simple: They're very unorganized. Classes would change a lot.

I was never told exactly what I needed to do to graduate. Test sheets would sometimes go missing or get mixed up. Me and other students would rarely get positive comments from the staff(except for Lori she was always nice) instead they would judge A LOT. I remember sometimes I wished I worked on clients all day because they were always sweet and loved my service.

The one incharge charge of that location(Leah) she forgets A LOT things which jeopardized my exams. She acts more of a boss instead of a leader. The attitude of a narcissist because she thought she was always right which made it uncomfortable for me to go to her for questions or concerns. To new students she's always really nice. at first. I feel like that job should be for someone with a fresh mind, great attitude and explains themselves really well on what needs to be done and what options the students have.

I've been coming here for about 10 years and its rare for me to have a bad hair cut. I don't mind my head being used to learn, hair grows back. LOVE this place.

Caitlyn did a great job on my facial and waxing. The salon is very spacious and there were plenty of people available for walk ins.

We came in today and got accepted as a walk-in. Which has been terribly hard to find during the pandemic. Our hair stylist was Crissy. She was very nice and professional. My son's hair turned out phenomenal! He almost fell asleep during the haircut : and it was only $6.99 looks like a $30 cut. I will definitely be going back for future services! Thank you Crissy, he will be so handsome for school picture day.

When I was young one of you guys messed me up and Im still traumatized from it but it is a good deal for the cost. This was my childhood hair salon so I have multiple experiences from it. I remember one time the person who cut my hair told me to keep my head up and to let my hair down so that's why i have you guys 5 stars because I never forgot those words threw out all these years it was a boost of confidence that I needed in my young years

Phagans oh Phagans. Yes the rumors/ reputation of this school are true, and probably way worse than you'd even imagine or have heard. I know first handedly from being a student there for a few months, and from also being a "guest" When you walk into Phagans in Salem you'll notice how small, outdated, and dirty it is. Hair clumped on the floor and put in a large pile in the dustpan (how hard is it to walk 2 feet and throw it away) really dusty and dirty ceilings.

Just a really claustrophobic, cluttered, old feel. The students are very unqualified to work on people. Education is definitely NOT a priority when you come to this school, and unfortunately it shows in the students work especially the hair. I advise you before you go to this school to take a look at their Instagram and the work that's coming out of the school. very mediocre and sloppy.

I feel bad that the students aren't supported more, but unfortunately they run Phagans like a business more than a place for students to learn. If you plan on going to this school as a student, keep in mind that you're going to be dealing with a lot of drama. With Phagans having a barber program it means there's also a large number of male students, which brings on a whole other layer of bs.

When I went to school at Phagans there was so much in appropriate relationships between students that would effect the whole school. Teachers having inappropriate relationships. People having sex at school. Girls fighting over guys. It's just a mess and the teachers almost relish in it. Phagans has a HUGE drug problem and you'll probably be able to tell by the huge amount of marijuana you smell all over the school.

When I was a student teachers would smoke weed with the staff in the back. You'd think being federally funded they'd be able to set a better example. When I went to school there they would even drink with the students and helped hide bottles. shame shame A lot of the students are straight out of prison, on drugs, or just sketchy. If you want a ghetto, unsupportive, hack job, dirty experience Phagans is the place for you. Don't take it from me though, like I said look into Phagans and a you'll discover some very interesting discoveries. So many other options in Salem. Don't go here.

Had my first bad experience. It's expected to happen sometime. Started off the barber that should of cut my hair was late and is all the time I was told. so I got the new girl. She tried real hard. I will still go back. It's only hair right.

I was very DISAPPOINTED in the customer service I received from an instructor by the name of Missy purple hair lady was very unprofessional she raised her voice loud enough for the whole salon to Hear her, it was so embarrassing not to mention uncomfortable and uncomfortable., the rest of the staff were were AMAZING. I got apologies from The lady doing my hair and the lady in charge!

But unfortunately I will NOT be returning as this incident is the 2 Nd with this unprofessional instructor. I failed to mention my daughter came and walked out before the appointment due to Missy making her feel uncomfortable and awkward.

I have had many different services done here, and they have all been great! From facials, to nails, and hair cut/color. The students are so much fun, the staff is friendly and helpful. And I come out feeling so pretty! I've enjoyed the experience and results each time I've gone. Thanks all, keep up the good work!

I got my hair done here yesterday for my 22nd birthday and LOVE IT SO MUCH! I was the first to walk in, and the last to leave.they took the time to make sure my hair was perfect before letting me go! So friendly and kind! I definitely will be coming back! : thank you to the ladies who did an AMAZING job on my hair!

This place was a great surprise. I read all the reviews on yelp and most of them were all negative reviews so I really didn't expect much. I called towards the end of the day and they gave me an appointment for the very next day. I went in there for my very first full set of acrylic nails and was paired with Cyra. She did such an amazing job I was so blown away by her nail talent!

I won't be able to go anywhere else because she set my nail expectation so high. She even stayed passed her scheduled school time to finish my appointment. She made sure everything was perfect and wasn't satisfied until I was happy. She is such an Amazing nail artist I would definitely give her 10/10 she was so nice and actually talked and listened to everything I wanted.

She even hand sculpted a little pumpkin on the vine to accent my nails. The only downside about my experience is that I learned that she is graduating next month. I came in with no expectations and left extremely content with my experience and the quality job she did. Thank you so much Cyra you are amazing!

So great; I love Ms. Lori, I've gained so much confidence and knowledge from her, she is one in a mil. (Most of the instructors are great.) she really helps you get down the basics!

Needed a haircut bad, my regular barber was unavailable due to personal business, so upon recommendation of my daughter scheduled a haircut knowing this is school with students that have different levels of skill. I was assigned Dylan to cut my hair and as I waited had great learning conversation with receptionist Jennifer. She told me how the school operates, hours required in training, the different things they learn.

At my scheduled time Dylan came and led me back to his station. He moved with practiced skill, keeping up a good conversation and made the experience excellent. Unfortunately he will be graduating shortly, but they made a believer out of me. Love my haircut and will return to give another student some practice.

My gf went to Phagans today to get her nails done and this was the result (not pictured is the super crooked nail) The instructor who signed off on this set gave 100% for 30% quality. Now yes we know the nails wouldn't be perfect BUT what kind of instruction is given here when nails are visibly done in a shotty manner and approved?! Had it been my student, we would've had a talk and my gf would've been allowed to leave without paying for such cruddy work.

Worst customer service ever. Made an appointment 3 days in advance for myself and maid of honor. Pedicures and facials. They said 3:45. They call the day of and say 3:25. Ok. We walk in at 3:27 and there are TWO girls at the counter. Neither even acknowledge us. Then one finally asks what we need. I say my spiel about our appointment. She says no, your appointment was at 3. No, it was not.

So then they tell us there's no time for our requested services. Thanks for nothing. She drove two hours from out of town to come treat me and they ruined everything. On top of my already stressful wedding planning, they blew my day of relaxation. I will NEVER do that again nor will I ever recommend this place to ANYONE.

Public service announcement; don't go to phagans unless you want a half thought though, uneven, goofy cut for $10. Absolute **** experience.

I was looking forward to getting my hair cut. Phagan's is the most unprofessional place I have ever been. I understand that it is a school, but the girl that was supposed to cut my hair had such a stinky attitude, and had me waiting long after my appointment time that I didn't want to even deal with her. I left upset. Upset that The Academy of Hair Design closed, I enjoyed going there as the students were taught to be polite and professional. Phagans is horrible! Spend more money and go somewhere else, that way you don't have to be in such a toxic environment.

First time in and it all went well, had my hair dyed darker, single color. It was half the price from a professional salon, since it's students learning. (took 2 hours) I am planning to return for a mani and pedi. (discount special on Thursday)

Horrible. I brought my daughters in to get their nails done for prom and paid 20.00 each. What a bumpy gross mess they did. One of them even made her nails bleed. Spend your money some where else this place is a joke.

I asked for and got an advanced student. He did a fantastic job cutting my hair and my hair is difficult to cut. It automatically shows when even one cut is wrong.

Again with more customer service problems. Not sure why Salem has such trouble grasping it but this salon definitely needs some training. When my husband and I asked if they were running any specials the lady behind the counter said, "everything's on special, its a beauty college." and then pointed to the price menu. All of the prices were identical to what you would pay at cost cutters, or a Walmart salon.

Not worth the experience at all. My husband got a great cut from the boy who cut his hair but again. it all comes back to customer service for us. This place: Doesn't have it!
