It has been 60 years since my father Al Howard set his plans in motion to open the Lincoln Barber College, now known as the College of Hair Design. The inspiration to teach others the Art of Barbering began during the 5 years he served in the U.S Navy as a Barber. It was very rewarding for him to share his skills with others in the Navy.

This was about 2 maybe 3 years ago now but the instructor outright refused to try to get my hair to blue even after I expressed I was fine with having multiple appointments I was fine with it if it turned green I didn't care I would do whatever was asked of me. She said she didn't want to do multiple appointments because she didn't want me to leave with yellow hair.
It didn't matter how much I explained I was comfortable with that she literally refused. I finally relented and said I guess I would be comfortable going bright red because I had done that before but unbeknownst to me they decided not to use any bleach at all and just put the red over my brown. I left with burgundy hair and was very upset. I have not gone back since. No point in going somewhere if they won't give me what i ask for.

I just had a gel manicure and pedicure two days ago. Within the first 24 hours all of the nail polish peeled off. Today, after a bath, the toenail polish is gone too. Literally peeled off in a single piece per nail. I had asked the student if she needed to remove my basecoat, and she said no. And she proceeded that to just put the gel polish right on top of my existing clear polish.
I've never heard of such a thing, and clearly that didn't work. I feel bad for her, because she wanted to do a good job, but didn't have the tools at her disposal for a professional manicure and pedicure. The tub of "manicure supplies" didn't even include nail polish remover. It was a plastic tub of dirty and unlabeled bottles. Nothing appeared sanitized or even remotely clean.
The pedicure was more of the same. No bowl liner. No decent light in the room for her to see what she was doing. I like to try to support the college of hair design, so that the students can get experience. Have had so Good luck with facials and body treatments. But this one was a total fail.

When I arrived, it seemed that the student was very new, and an instructor would be doing most of my haircut as a demonstration. I thought I was lucky. Ohh boy, was I wrong. Going into this, I already knew it's $8.50 and done by students, so my expectations were low. I even came prepared with pictures of what I wanted my hair to look like in several different angles.
But not a single thing came out the same. Not only was it different; it was horrible. Thinner bangs that reach my eyebrows? Looks bald in some places and too thick in others, and why is it longer in the middle and shorter at the sides? Thick, even side bangs? More like formless flaps a three-year-old took plastic scissors to. Slightly-layered ends?
I'm not exactly pleased but it'll do. My friend screamed when she saw the disaster that's my hair now. I can't even tie it up to hide it because the ugliest side bangs become even more obvious. Perhaps the next time someone brings in photos to show exactly what they want their hair to look like, the instructor could take more than 2 seconds to look at them before dismissing them and using their own "creativity" instead?

The students try hard and are friendly. The teachers need to work on customer service. Don't just come over and talk about how damaged someone's hair is or how short someone's lashes are so perms or extensions cant be preformed. Build a relationship with the customer or pull the student aside and tell them to give the message since they are building relationships.

The students and instructors were awesome! Very friendly and calm environment. my hair had been previously dyed and wasn't the best. The student I had color corrected and blended my hair so beautifully. Overall great experience! No words to describe how my hair looks and feels. It is exactly what I wanted and I feel like I robbed the place because I paid $100 for an amazing balayage! Thank you college of hair design!

I've been coming here off and on for at least 10 years. I've never had a bad experience. If the students are not quite getting you the look you want, the instructors are there to guide through or fix. Two sets of eyes for the price of one! Its very affordable and there are monthly specials on products. Walk-ins are welcome but I usually call the day before so I don't have to wait more than a couple minutes. And they validate parking!

Can only speak for nail services: if you get a student named Pravin or Parvin R. Expect a very subpar manicure. I understand it's students, but genuinely I could've done a better job at home. She missed the sides, there's bubbles, and I have so much paint on my skin, I'm not even sure how to get it off. On top of that she forgot the topcoat, when I reminded her she specifically asked me if I'm sure and that she doesn't think so, until examining my nails and saying oh yes, you're right, and when she wanted me to take my hand out of the light machine, instead of using words, she would grant or say the noise "mmm" indicating I should take my hand out?
She said a total of maybe five words to me. If you want to go there to use the services, definitely look into who your nail technician is going to be! She took the longest of the three, and did the worst job. Not sure if this is the kind of service that they're teaching their students to give, but I was shocked! Nothing speaks louder than the pictures below!
