I went online to book an appointment for a haircut and brazilian blow out and before paying the deposit I called the studio to ask a quick question. When I called, the receptionist let me know that because I would be coming in on a Saturday, that I would be charged 25% more for each service because Saturdays are busy days for them. Nowhere on your website does it say that when booking an appointment and I'm glad I didn't book online to only find this out when coming to the salon and checking out. That would have added about $100 on to to my total.

I got a haircut that I wasn't super excited about at another salon in town. I booked this appointment in hopes of getting a quick fix. I left worse off than when I came in. When I got home I realized I needed to call and have them fix it. I went back and the stylist didn't appear to think anything was wrong with it which was awkward and disappointing.
I work in a warehouse and a coworker made a joke about my hair getting caught up in the machine. So it definitely wasn't looking good! The second cut looks a little better but it is still a bad haircut. There are weird long pieces and the layering is done badly. I asked for bangs during the second appointment because she could not figure out how to add layers around my face and then I was charged for the bang trim. Very disappointed and will not be back.

Never had a bad experience at the salon until my last visit - Perhaps I am alone in this - I only trim my hair once or twice a year; I opt for a dry cut because haircuts aren't cheap! I budget for these types of things. I was able to get a last minute appointment (booked less than a week before I was seen) with a fantastic stylist named Sarah (I only ever been seen by Ashley, also fantastic).
After my dry cut (I washed and dried my own hair earlier that day) the receptionist told me my total was $96. When I explained my disbelief at the cost (I was used to a $40 price tag on a dry cut from past experience with the salon) I was told that I booked with the most expensive stylist. While I can understand this, 110%. NO ONE told me that when I made the appointment.
The receptionist did let me know that she 'didn't make my appointment' because she 'would have told me about that' and didn't offer any other words besides talking to who ever the mystery receptionist was that made my appointment - which doesn't help me but hopefully helps anyone else to avoid an issue like this in the future. My hair does look wonderful (I paid enough for it) but I won't be back because of this, either. Major miscommunication

Each time I have went to this salon I haven't been happy with my cut or my color. They stylist Ashley was so rude and disrespectful to be around after I asked her to fix HER mistake on my hair. As the stylist if you make a mistake you don't mistreat your client. and give her the silent treatment. Don't waste your money. There is so many other better places that don't over charge like this salon does.

Been going here for years. Decided to get my hair colored like a sunset. I have been doing my own crazy colors for awhile, but I really wanted this to look nice. I asked how much it would be, and my stylist said 2-3 hours. It ended up taking 5, and I paid for an hour of that waiting for my hair to process. Total was $600! To add to that, I wasn't told the bright colors are SEMI PERMANENT.
Color was bleeding before I even shampooed it, and a LOT was coming out. I went in vacation 2 weeks after, and I was staining hotel towels. I called to talk to the manager, who basically said it was all my fault and I did everything wrong. So to recap: get a quote on coloring in writing, and make sure you're prepared to get your color redone every 5 weeks, which is ridiculous. I'm really sad to say this about Salon 554, but after the manager was just a bitch to me for no reason, I'm taking my service elsewhere. Sorry Katie :

Wow! I recently had dreads for 6 years and decided to cut them off knowing id want a pixie after. Brittany cut my hair and the second she touched my hair i was confident in her and she beamed confidence i was at ease. I got a conditioning treatment that was amazing and the cut was even better. She made my smile bigger and gave me numerous options of how to style my new hair. I will certainly be going back to have Brittany cut my hair and 100% suggest the salon and Brittany

I went into this place after reading some positive reviews online. I was excited that they were using Kevin Murphy products as they are my favorite. I decided to make an appointment for a dry hair cut, and then a separate appointment for full highlights. When I called to make the appointment, I was recommended to Brittany as the person on the phone claimed she was a top tier stylist who had experience with curly hair.
When I went in for my haircut, I noticed while Brittany was cutting my hair she had absolutely no idea how to cut curly hair, and I honestly felt like Supercuts would have done a better job. She butchered the back of my hair, despite my asking her to keep it longer back there and it was completely uneven. I cut my own hair usually and way better than she did, and it was nerve wrenching to watch her cut it.
But lesson learned. I decided to be super clear about what I wanted for my highlights because since she didn't cut my hair well, I wanted to make sure she was talented in the highlighting department before letting her touch my hair again. Brittany assured me via phone and in person prior to my appointment that she could do what I was asking and she wanted to charge me $280 for highlights which is absolutely skyrocketed prices so I wanted to make sure she had the talent to be worth that.
When my appointment came, she tried to backtrack her services and said that she would have to charge me way more like $100-150 more to do full highlights. I even had the quote in writing which states "full highlights" so I definitely got upset with Brittany because she was trying to take advantage of me and scam me. I told her that's not what you agreed to, and she said yeah but all I can do for you is partial at that quoted and offered price.
This is after she already added additional $$ for extra product and extra time. Brittany kept seeking to push me into agreeing verbally with her with her wants for my hair, but I refused to comply with that bully-like behavior. So this was so unprofessional, and after what she did to my hair and lying about having the talent to cut curly hair, I realized that Brittany didn't want me as a client and cared more about her time and effort (which was very inflated in my opinion) than me as the customer, so I got up and left and refused to let her touch my hair.
I would never let anyone in this salon touch my hair again, because if this is how this business is run with hiring stylist who seek to scam/lie about their talent and services and prices until you're in the seat paying them. then "wow" that's just not a business I want to support.

Ashley did such a fantastic job on my blonde highlight touch-up! I was in town only for the weekend and dropped by Salon 554 on extremely short notice to see if I could book a color service. Ashley made time during her existing schedule to have a personalized mini-consultation where she listened to what I was requesting for and provided me with photos of some of her prior work with blonde hair.
I am usually apprehensive working with new stylists because I require someone with experience working with blonde hair, but she assured me that she had the knowledge and experience to give me the look I wanted and she by far exceeded my expectations. I left with a blended, ashy blonde that looked very natural and she fixed the dark grow-out in the denser area of my hair that was unaddressed by my regular stylist.
My service took a little over 3 hours and I was very pleased with the value after the service fee and well-deserved tip. I will definitely be booking another appointment with Ashley if I find myself back in Salem!

Ellie did a great job shaping up my hair when I just had it cut a week ago at a different salon and was disappointed. It was a little more than I usually spend on a hair cut, but worth every penny. I will definitely return when it's time to cut my hair again. A good stylist is hard to find and Salon 554 is the goto place to find someone good and they are friendly too!

I've always kept my hair pretty long and decided to take the plunge and chop it off this summer. I haven't gotten a haircut in years and was pretty nervous to go short. I came in and saw Chloe for a dry cut and style. She completely exceeded my expectations. I get so many complements. I'll keep it short for awhile because I'm so in love with the cut. I won't go to anyone else after that. Thank you Chloe, you are awesome!

Nice salon, good products, and the woman who cut my hair was knowledgeable, but I'm very disappointed with how it turned out. I asked her to add more to the top so it wasn't so flat and uncurly, and she didn't put any layers in, she also cut off more than I wanted, so now my hair is shorter than I like and all my curl is on top of my shoulders.
And it's still flat on top of my head. I still have the problem spots that I asked her to fix. One side is also a different length than the other side. Not worth $88, wish I could get my money back. Going to be canceling my follow up for October.

KATIE IS AMAZING! I was lucky enough to get scheduled with her for the first time over the weekend and I am so so happy with what she was able to accomplish! All the stylists were stopping by our station to watch her because she's. That. Good. I have been trying to achieve this shade of "red" for so long and she was finally able to pull it off for me. on the first try! Im getting compliments everywhere I go. Really, you won't regret anything about this salon- everyone is awesome! This girl will have to fire me as a client for me to ever see anyone else. Just sayin. THANKS GIRL!

I have to big time recommend Blake! I brought my six year old in after she had gotten carried away with the scissors and butchered her hair at home. At best she originally had an extreme version of a mullet. When I came into salon 554 poor Blake thought he had a normal adult haircut. No one told him he would be trying to work a miracle on a six year old.
But he easily rose to the occasion. I wish I had taken before and after pictures! Not only did he do a beautiful job he was friendly, kind, and easy to talk to. My daughter came in saying "no way I don't want a boy to cut my hair!" But by the end he had totally won her over on the way out she said "wow mom he was so cool, I really like that guy!" Super happy.

Brittany cut my girlfriend's hair, yesterday. She ignored the design my girlfriend brought pictures of, pushed for changes she declined until she eventually agreed, and then botched a core detail of the change. She shaved lines that were not even, that joined in the back off center. When my girlfriend asked for a resolution, she was told that she wasn't charged extra for the lines, so there could be no refund for this colossal mistake.
Satisfaction definitely not guaranteed. [Edit] After posting the same review on Facebook, a member of staff (Sara Marie Brown) decided to turn the review into blaming my girlfriend's body, and my presence in the building, for the poor work. It did not take long for every employee to jump on the bandwagon of patting the stylist on the back. Very unprofessional.

Amazing! Brittany did my hair, I got a razor cut which requires skill. We consulted beforehand and discussed what I wanted. She did exactly what I wanted. She was professional and so fun. We discussed my color options and if I wanted to even do a color. As with hair growth (I didn't have much that would need coloring) after a few cuts the part that would need toned wouldn't be a factor anymore.
I WALKED OUT OF THERE feeling like a bad ass! I will be back. Just found my new hair stylist and my new home salon. Excellent prices for quality, experience, skill and knowledge.

Curly girls! You need Ellie! Ellie, you did such an utterly outstanding job! I literally cannot thank you enough. You're amazing! The salon is upscale and beautiful, but could be nowhere without fabulous hairdressers (is that the proper term?) like Ellie. She listened to all, and I mean all, of my wants and goals for today's appointment.
She took the care to ask questions to confirm her understanding and gave me some wonderful and mind blowing tips along the way. She was patient, funny, and so kind. Sanitized stations and clean environment. Mask wearing was mostly adhered to by most staff. That's a biggie for me nowadays. I will absolutely be back. Thank you, Ellie!

Chloe did my hair and my sister in laws hair for her wedding yesterday. I was blown away with Chloe's work. I brought in clip extensions, showed her a picture of what I wanted and she had my hair completed in 35 minutes. My hair stayed from 10 am till 10 pm when I took it out. My head is sensitive and she worked some amazing magic and it was comfortable all night and really only used like 7-10 pins. I highly recommend Chloe if you're looking to have any bridal hair/prom hair done! She is also incredibly sweet

I would recommend Chloe for long hair trim. She is a expert at long wavy and curly hair. She actively listens to what the customer wants. She did a face sculpture and layers. Blake did my sister's hair and he did a good job with her trim. She did not have dead ends. They have extra measures in place for COVID and charge a additional fee for the cost of cleaning to maintain the place sanitation.

This was one of the best experiences I have had at a salon. I called around the Salem area to find a place that specialized in curly hair and I was very disappointed with how few there was. After about 7 calls I found Salon 554 and I am so happy that they were able to fit me in the day I called. I was given instructions on how to style my hair before coming in so they could see what my hair looked like clean without product.
The salon was clean, trendy decor, great product selection and welcoming. The receptionist greeted me with a smile, gave me a form to fill out to better get to know me and what I am wanting as far as hair styles and then offered me a variety of drinks. I was even given a gift card envelope full of coupons for future visits! I waited less then 5 minutes for Ellie Starr to get me and she was amazing!
She sat down next to me while I showed her pictures of what I wanted. She listened to me and talked to me about my current hair regiment and what the next steps would be to get my goal hair. I never felt rushed or as if I wasn't important since I was only getting a cut and nothing else. The entire time she cut my hair she talked to me about what she was doing, why she was doing it and verified the various lengths before she cut.
Because my hair is so curly she showed me what my hair would be after she cut it (about an inch shorter) and she was just so pleasant to talk to. I simply could not be happier and look forward to my future visits with Ellie. My next visit will be even more in depth and I am very excited to have Ellie work her magic.

They should have a sign outside saying no kids allowed! I took both my kids 10month and a 4yr old, which I have taken before and we have never had an issue up until today. I understand this is a hair salon and sometimes it takes a while but i saw no problem with taking my kids since I was going in for a touch up and a hair cut. My son speaks loudly and was running in place when the owner raises her voice to my stylist and says "no more kids, no more he's stressing me out!" I have not had any issue the previous times in fact she was talking to my son the previous time I went in.
She was rude and could have politely asked to not bring my kids anymore. Being a mother herself she should be more understandable. With all that money she charges she should go see a dam therapist for her stress! Can't imagine if my kid "stressed" her out, what those kids of hers have to deal with at home!

I called asking for prices on a simple blow dry. I was told prices range from $23-68 depending on the stylist demand and skill level. I asked if there was someone available on the lower end (since a blow dry is simple) and was told yes. Before I hung up I made SURE to double check the price and whoever spoke to me confirmed it would be $23 and told me the name of the stylist.
When I got there I waited over thirty minutes to be seen. I had an event that night which I ended up being late to, had they been on time at the salon, I would have been as well. Hannah was lovely, and this review is not about her work or skill. She was excellent and knowledgeable. My problem with this place is just like everyone else's reviews, their unethical business practices.
When I was finished and went to pay I was told $57. For a blow dry. I was astounded. When I told the receptionist I was quoted $23 she tried to give me the whole schpiel I received on the phone earlier. I told her I knew all of that but I was specifically told how much and with who. She told me since I didn't know the name of the person who quoted me they couldn't do anything.
I then asked for a break down of the charge. $38 for the blow dry (in LA you can get an amazing blow dry at drybar for $35, the prices here are entirely unjustified) and $19 for having long hair. NINETEEN. That's thievery; it's also something that should have been discussed with me prior. I chose this salon because it's convenient for me, next to where I live and where the event I was going to was. Had I known they charge an arm and a leg for a simple service, without telling you what they're charging you for prior, I would have gone somewhere else. Hannah was sweet and I recommend her services if you choose to go here but unfortunately I can't support a business like this who is "loose" with how they the price. From the other reviews it seems this is an ongoing theme.

Recently relocated from Bend OR and really had to check this place out for myself. I honestly do NOT understand why this place got a 3 star rating. They're professional, sweet, accommodating and efficient. Pricey absolutely. But like Sarah Marie told me; "you can't put cheap oil in a BMW". Anotherwards you get what you pay for. Also there is a slight way around paying an arm and a leg here.
Although all their stylists are wonderful and trained with the utmost standards, They have different price points that can work with your budget- starting at an associate and so forth. So price really shouldn't be an issue. Mine was because the poor girls had to get this horrid black BOX DYE out of my hair and bring me back to my natural. Sarah Marie is the owner and manager I believe, and had an associate assist with my hair. She's firm with her stylists but knows what shes doing.
And I respect that. I don't want someone who has lax standards when it comes to me and my hair. I felt pretty when I left the salon and very happy with the results. Will definitely return as a client. Thanks Salon 554 for fixing me!

Okay. Meh. I didn't get any compliments. Nothing outstanding. I've been here about 5 times and disappointed; changing to a new shop. The skill level isn't there for the price. The thing that kept me going back was the location. I've been rescheduled a couple times which is difficult with a working schedule, too.

What I asked for was a touch up on my long layers to get rid of the split ends. What I got was half my hair missing, lopsided layers that were uneven by nearly an inch, and angles that were cut in the wrong direction. Right before a job interview. This was my first, and only, appointment with Mikayla and this salon. During the consultation, she asked where my shortest layer should be, which I was pretty specific about.
My "shortest" layer became my longest layer, and since she started in the back, it wasn't until I saw how much hair was on the floor that I realized how much hair was gone. My layers were entirely redone with a huge, heavy, layer around my ears and very thin ones that didn't even reach my shoulders. My hair is naturally thick, so when she styled it with lots of product and a lot of round brush fluffing, I looked like a mushroom.
For reference, I had started with hair halfway down my back. To make matters worse, the 'framing pieces' around my face looked like chunky grown out bangs even after I asked the stylist to soften the angles. When I called to complain, I was essentially told that they'd be keeping my money, but that another stylist would be happy to fix it. Nope.
I went to a different salon, booked another appointment, and got a little damage control. Things were worse than I even expected as he spent the appt. retrimming an uneven cut job and re-angling some of the layers. And while it did look better, as the stylist said "There's just no hair here to work with." In total, I lost $80.00 and 4 hours to get a style that I am waiting to grow out so the second stylist has something to work with.
