Services
Arizona Academy of Beauty was founded in 1961 to offer men and women a school of higher learning to prepare them to enter the growing field of Cosmetology, Nail Technology, and Instructor Training and to meet the demands of society by giving them a means toward gainful employment and ultimately a more successful standard of living.
Arizona Academy of Beauty offers three course programs: Cosmetology, Nail Technology, and Cosmetology Instructor Training. Cosmetology and Nail Technology are the two most popular career programs. The 1600-hour Cosmetology program gives you practical, hands-on experience and the basic knowledge and theory that supports a successful, fulfilling career as a Cosmetologist. You'll spend 450 of the hours in the classroom where you learn design principles, technical information and professional practices.
Entrance is open to career minded people who, in the opinion of the Academy staff, would be able to obtain and utilize the skills taught for employment. Candidates are thoroughly screened to determine their capabilities and career potential. Students must provide satisfactory evidence that they are at least 16 years of age with a government issued driver's license/id card, birth certificate or a passport. In order to award Financial Aid, the Academies will only admit as students, candidates having a high school diploma or GED certificate.

I went back recently to find out Miss Audrey was gone. Bring her back! She was the only reason I came back. Last time the instructor looked at me with her student and the only thing she said was, " You good?" and my poor student just picked up her scissors and said in a kinda sarcastic huffy like way, said "Ok." The trainer was going to walk away without giving her any guidance or supervision.
I said, "No, she could use help!" Miss Audrey was so helpful and made sure these students were learning. She was the best thing to happen to this place and I have been coming here for 20+ yrs. I won't be back.

I've been going to the Academy of Beauty in Tucson for 5 years now, ever since I moved to Arizona. Compared to a few others salons that I tried at first, I have found the Academy gave me much better results. It is a college and the instructors are very knowledgeable plus the students are friendly and eager to learn. I have had appointments for both color and hair cuts and always leave looking wonderful. I go because of the results not the price, but is nice bonus to save so much. I feel lucky to have found the Arizona Academy of Beauty. Carla D

I need to let it be known that my experience at Arizona Academy of Beauty was beyond awful. I am writing this review for any individual who is looking into and or doing research to start a cosmetology or nail program in Tucson. DO NOT ENROLL HERE! It is a waste of time and money. And you will NOT be given the education promised to you by enrollment to pass your boards.
This school is understaffed and the turn over for instructors is unbelievable. The school uses low grade (over the counter/non professional) color that is never stocked, to provide color services for guests guests. And they have never offered or given color classes to educate students on the color being used. In addition to the awful color that's never available, the owner only provides: setting lotion, hair spray and "cost efficient" shampoo and conditioner that does not cater to the clients hair needs. Example- color, fine, ethnic hair.
It is just cheap shampoo and conditioner - that we also are limited to the amount used. I was under the impression that the school carried and provided the proper products to service guests, but they do not and students go next door to dollar store and pay out of pocket for products that they need for their guests. There is such a lack of encouragement and motivation for the students from the staff. therefore, no one shows up to school. and when you go to graduate, the owner excepts to be paid in cash for "over time" with out notice.
Majority of the students cannot afford to pay the hundreds of dollars in over time. You will not learn or be prepared for your career, no quality supplies here prices for services are high, never any products for clients, a lack of support for students and staff. I don't know how they passed sanitation the facility is never disinfected properly. The over turn in staff is unfortunate for the students, due to the lack of support students don't come to school.

Graduated from here years ago and it's sad to say this place hasn't changed AT ALL! This school is super outdated and office staff are still unprofessional. The new Admission advisor, (Jenelle or Jocelyn?)has a very hard time keeping her word! It's was such an inconvenience just trying to get my transcripts! She tells you over and over that she'll "talk to the owner and will get back with you very soon" and NEVER GETS BACK TO YOU!
I always have to call her days later just to get no answers because she doesn't actually get answers like she says she will. I truly miss the old admissions advisor Noel! She was always on top of everything! But this school ran her ragged ( the owner). Now don't get me started on the owner Carey LOL that lady is a character. Biggest perpetrator you'll EVER MEET!
She is all about the money and does not care about the students and their success! She supplies her paying students with the cheapest kits and materials. Thank goodness I transferred from a different school and had an amazing kit. Even the shampoo and conditioner is cheap. But I guess that's expected if you wanna keep nice things for yourself. Lol point is, STAY AWAY! They are just as raggedy as Empire.

My wife was treated rudely and charged more than she should of. She came home with hair dye all over her shirt and her face. Her bangs were cut uneven. They never apologized if these students are going to be in service industry this school should teach that but they dont and could care less about you and is there just for the money.

I am a student here and have been since October 2020 as a nail tech. Before coming here I didn't even know I had a passion for nails. The teachers here helped me to realize my true potential and the basics of nails. They are flexible with your schedule and allow you to finish at a pace that works for you. The night teachers make coming to school worth it, especially Ms Audree!

Miss Audree and Mrs. Elisa's have been good instructors to me since I started in January. Miss Audree is new to our school and she is an awesome instructor and keeps a good vibe at night along with open communicates with her students. Miss Audree and Mrs. Elisa's have encouraged me to do and be my absolute best in the nail industry! I can't wait to be an Arizona Academy of Beauty Nail Program Graduate!

I attended this school until December 2019.in the time I was there, I witnessed a teacher unlocking a students locker and allowing other students to go through it while she looked the other way. (Of course this has been denied many times, and I am aware there is no proof, just the word of mouth from the girls involved, which did include me) They finally got working cameras after the school had things stolen, but not after multiple students dealt with theft, students property was destroyed, etc. Instructors will sit in the corner and gossip openly about students and clients.
If you are considering Cosmetology school please just explore ALL of your options before settling for this school. I don't want anyone else to go through the kind of experience I went through at this place. The list of issues with the establishment is endless. I also had left a review on the schools facebook page, but the owner, Ms Carey White (I assume it was her doing) had my review removed and blocked me from leaving any more. That should be enough to tell you about what kind of business she runs.she would rather silence someone that address the issues, as a business owner should.

I take my mother here to get her hair done and the student workers do a great job. I have no issue at all with the service. My issue is with the front desk receptionist charging us amounts different than advertised. The last time we were there, we were charged extra for putting my mother's hair up in pin curls instead of rollers and when asked why it was extra, I wasn't given a response.
There is also no advertising explaining the difference in pricing. We were not told upfront it would be extra. We've also never had it happen in any other schools we've been to.

Horrible customer service! Avoid! I had made an appointment for a haircut & brow wax. When I show up for my appointment they said they didn't have any wax, as if not being prepared isn't bad enough, you couldn't notify me in advance? I then proceeded to wait for 35 minutes! After checking in with the front desk numerous times about the wait the receptionist was totally heinous. They obviously don't care about their clients whatsoever. I eventually had to just walk out since they were not going to help me.

I have to admit, when my wife said the haircuts are only $6 and performed by students overseen by teachers, I didn't know what to expect. So we brought our children as "test subjects", figuring we could always give them a crew cut if it didn't work out so well. We were very pleasantly surprised - we have never had the same student twice, and each time the hair cuts come out just as good as anywhere else.
In addition, each time we go, we have been treated very well. This last time we went, my son left his teddy bear and was heart broken. I tried calling them but they were already closed. The next day, when we went to see if it was still there, it had a note on it with my son's name, and they asked us to prove we were the parents of the teddy bear! What wonderful people - refreshing in this day and age of ho-hum service to be treated so well. I'm a big fan.
